The first expansion to one of the greatest turn-based strategy-sim gems of all time. It is unlikely anyone will buy this separately from the Complete Edition and if one would ponder about getting it, pretty much all content except for a few scenarios is already bundled within Beyond the Sword.

Apart from that, Warlords was and is a very solid expansion, adding a lot of functionality and content for an extremely fair price for a timeless classic.

No point in getting this as all the functionality of Warlords apart from the scenarios is included in Beyond the Sword. So get that instead. I've only got this because it was included in Civ 4 complete.

Warlords isn't as huge an expansion pack as some of the previous Civilization titles have had, but it's the best balanced, most refined expansion pack a Civilization title has ever had, and it carries more than enough new content to justify the purchase price.

I've enjoyed this episode the most, usually playing the Terra map in order to be able to expand first into an unclaimed territory.

The ability to modify the game text by editing XML has been fun -- part of the enjoyment in both Civ II and Civ IV for me has been editing the resources.

On my platform (Win 7/2.8GHz HP home PC/8 MB RAM), the UI alternates between snappy and very slow. After a while (presumably a memory garbage collection) it gets fast again. Using some of the shortcuts like right-click to move makes the slow-down bearable.

You're not seriously considering buying just Warlords, are you?

Come on. Get the Complete Edition if you don't have Civ 4 at all yet, or else at least make sure to pick up Beyond the Sword as well.

But honestly, I can't imagine people considering picking up just one of two cheap expansions to a game this old. If you actually are seriously considering this, please comment on this review so I know. I'm quite interested.

This game just never gets old for me. I have over 28k hours played and it's still my favorite game.

Been playing since Civ 2. So much better then 5 or 6 in my opinion.

After a fun trip down memory lane with the original Civ IV, it was time to dive into Warlords and see what changed. The leaders add in this expansion aren't typically the leaders I would play and sadly, Catherine was updated and lost her financial trait. :( I loved the addition of unique buildings and the Great Wall wonder. Everything I love about Civ IV vanilla is still here and Warlords is a great expansion that adds a lot of extras to the game. There's little reason to buy this expansion if you have Beyond the Sword since everything added in Warlords is also part of BtS EXCEPT the scenarios. One thing I did experience while playing Warlords is that I found the difficulty to be higher than in vanilla or BtS. So maybe getting Warlords is ideal for those that want a little harder of a game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
