- The dev wants the game to be played as intended.
- There are enough cheaters/hackers out there anyway.
- If a game can be played in MP, it will be infested with cheaters.
- Most people really dislikes cheaters/hackers. (I'm one of them)
The list can go on. Look at Ubisofts "The Division". They didn't even include cheats in
that one, but the dev has no idea how to stop cheaters. It's infested by cheaters/hackers
and it made me stop playing that crap. Waste of my money.
If you really want to play a game casually (breeze through), you might want to play
something else than a sim. If you leave your ship unattended you will die.
Sims usually requires players to invest time in them.
Every dev should do their best to prevent cheating. Same goes in RL.
Just look at the greatest cheater of them all, Ronaldo (Soccer). Worst player ever!
But if you are going to not serve a subset of your customers (me, the casual, persoanal cheater) then you can keep your products.
They are a waste of time anyway. Seriously - I could have had a PhD with the amount of time I waste on video games. And that's entirely MY FAULT.
Yeah but you're all orangy and stuff.
It's ok, the dev has contacted me to talk. I relayed my frustration at not only this game but the industry as a whole for how it is no longer implementing codes in general.
-edit-
Shawn is a stand-up dev. He understands my frustration and I understand the limitations of the savegame system implemented in Evochron.
Still, methinks I play too many video games. Imma go home and rethink my life now.
will remain.
The Dev is the best ever with superb support. Happy you got to speak with him.
Good luck and happy gaming!
There are still some "glitches" you can use which don't affect other players online, just aren't advertised a whole lot and I think "most" have been patched up.
that and devs frown on you messing with their programs active memory.
Ripping apart save files through a hexeditor would yield some interesting results (if checksums aren't checked or there isn't some kind of weird layout to prevent that)
There's many games out there without cheats...guess how cheats were made? Teamwork + Learning Skills + Time put in.
I still play Starfleet Command, stupidly old and hard game vs good human players, no cheats available. you should see how that game including the main program has been ripped to bits to do anything we want now. Mostly through hex editing, trial and error, etc.
Going to that extent if multiplayer picked up again would obviously cause problems....
I'm sure new games will have another lootbox BS thing to buy if they implement cheats again. I miss those days too.
Barely get a few hours of gaming a week these days.
Due to the mad excessive grind in games like this, I am forced to give up on experiencing much of what the game has to offer, and move to something else.
I have simply stopped giving money to games like this now. I will not be buying the sequel / successor to this one, unless there are some gameplay options to reduce grind or hacks are included.
"Excessive grind"? In Evochron Legacy?! Nice joke. Evochron Mercenary and early Evochron games were grindy, yes, but not Legacy. I purchased the game soon after the release and my pilot has only 80*10^6 credits. It is very, VERY low but I feel no need to increase the amount of money. The only device you need is mining/tractor beam. Mine metal, deploy sensor stations and get the stuff for FREE. Space is full of relics and shipwrecks. Explore the Evochron, find blueprints and craft the equipment. Run out of fuel? Mine metal, deploy refueling station. Etc, etc. Evochron is a sandbox game with open end. It does not take your hand and guide through the plot to the victory screen. You entertain yourself. If you don't know how to play this game without grind it is your problem not the game's fault. Your goal is not to earn billions of credits or get the biggest ship. Fight the Vonary in war zones or fight the opposite faction, chart the unxplored regions of space and build cities on uncharted planets, search the blueprints for equipment and craft. With cheats it would be nothing to do in this game. And don't forget: it is not your job or study. It is a pocket universe, another dimension where you can always return for a couple of hours a week and continue from the last save. Sorry for my English.
LOL, nice try!
"I purchased the game soon after the release and my pilot has only 80*10^6 credits. It is very, VERY low.." You just explained why people might find this game grindy and unrewarding, based on what they find entertaning.
You may enjoy repeating mundane activities like mining, or wading in the dark hoping to get lucky finds. Good for you.
I am mostly interested in combat. My idea of "entertainment" would be to try out new ships and new equipment, and thus open up new tactical avenues, try to take on stronger enemies etc. Progression is very important for me.... and is too slow in this game. Costs are too high, rewards and profits are too low.
This would all be conveniently fixed if there were some gameplay or modding options to tweak the economy or rewards in singleplayer. Both you and I would be happily enjoying this. But apparently its too much to ask nowadays.
I do not want to knock on what is obviously one of your favorite games. Just understand it is not as fun for everyone as it is for you. I will throw in some undeniable positives - this game is one of the most comprehensive, polished and stable space sims out there. It is like a holy union of the features seen in space sims from the past two decades. It is a remarkable achievement for a one-person developer. It just needs some balancing options, so that people without a lot of freetime to waste can enjoy it also.
Disclaimer for the soft-headed: the alternative to "1000 hours of grind" is not "instant gratification". There is a massive middle-ground between the two.
Shouldn't it be what the customer wants?
Product and demand right? I mean the gaming industry is similar to the entertainment industry.
2. - "There are enough cheaters/hackers out there anyway." Yes,and they are for the majority highly intelligent and determined. Noone can stop them from cheating it's a waste of resources using brute force tactics.
3.- "If a game can be played in MP, it will be infested with cheaters." It will still be infested with cheaters depending on how toxic the community is.
The maturity of the gamers. A good measure would be to police the online activity with gm's and actually kick cheaters from the game.
I've seen too many gm's do nothing. Or,have two servers when caught cheating you get dumped into a server with all other cheaters. The immature cheater will hate this. The recreational cheater will like this. Noncheats can enjoy the game as intended.
4. - "Most people really dislikes cheaters/hackers. (I'm one of them)" Offline cheating it doesn't really matter what you like. If I cheat it doesn't effect you. If it does
then there's a whole other problem to address here.
In summary, some people enjoy playing the game their way and not how some dev decided to deem it fit to play.
Like removing an annoying feature from the game like repetitive inventory management, constant single item consumption,
annoying mouse clicks like a rat with a cheese button, ect.
If someone can't accept this, and persist in the belief the game should be played a certain way, then the beliefs you have with people are immature and dangerous.
You may be one of these weak people that are easily triggered, and may need to be carefully examined to determine the right dosage for your new medication.
I don't know...Maybe I'm confused now..I will think longer on this. The thought of it all is entertaining.
