Why is it called Hylics?

Hylics is one of the three divisions of man in gnosticism.
The term "Hylic" is a group of humans whom have no form of individuality. They are completely 'material' beings with no spiritual component. They are incapable of gaining sacred knowledge or undergoing the process of ascension due to their undeveloped nature.
Notice how most in the game say randomly garbled nonsense, but that is merely my take.

Also, 'hylic' literally means 'material'. Everything in the world is made of clay, so that is also an interpretation.
