HDTP - What is it?
So while I was poking around in the options, I saw a section called "HDTP", and it has a list of npc's that can be set to true or false. By default, everything is set to false. What exactly is this for? Is it some kind of graphical upgrade for the npc skins? If so, is there a particular reason why they're all set to false by default?

It's updated models and textures for characters and some objects, just a few optional extras they've thrown in I guess.

Any reason why they're all turned off by default? Are they still experimental or something?

This is the character models Project HDTP has made, however they differ in style a bit from the original models so it might not fit everybody's taste, also the game is pretty performance burdened as it is so no point in adding more of a burden by default. Feel free to experiment with the settings to check out their changes and if you like them.

HDTP is a package of upgraded 3D models for decorations, weapons, and characters. The weapons and decoration upgrades are fairly comprehensive, so we keep those as a fixed part of the game experience. The character models are both somewhat stylized and don't cover all of the characters, so they're an optional element; it can look odd to have JC in much higher detail than the person he is talking to. Some people prefer playing with them, others prefer the consistency of keeping all of the characters at roughly the same level of detail.

Came here to ask this same thing. Thanks Devs for putting this out, by the way :D. Awesome.

So witch of both now is the higher detail version and looks better. HDTP on or off?

Technically the HDTP version have more details, but if you like their versions is a matter of personal opinion, just give it a try and see what you think.

I love new stuff, even if it doesn't match. :D Thanks for the info!

I wouldn't mind using HDTP much if every NPC and main character got the overhaul. As it is, you'll run into old low poly models and then the new high ones all the time. And the nostalgia factor takes a hit regardless, at least for me.

Although it was never part of the original release of HDTP it always bugged me that you could not turn off HDTP’s weapon models. While being higher quality I feel they lack the animations and “finesse” of the old weapons. I equip the riot prod or baton and their animations lack the feel of the originals.

I understand why Revision doesn’t include this option, but it would be cool if someone modded the original weapons back in. I have no clue how one would go about that however.
