My review of Deus Ex: Revision
This mod is probably the worst insult to the Deus Ex franchise yet. The level design is overdone with architecture that looks like a con artist ♥♥♥♥♥ architect went bat ♥♥♥♥ crazy with some government grant to redo all of the buildings. It is new age crap that looks so over-decorated with gimmicky glass displays and pointless archs everywhere that are all so out of place that you can't help but think that someone had to have been on PCP while making the maps.

The textures are so so, and that's only beacuse HDTP has been around awhile. To tell you the truth it's a modest improvement on the look of the game but I still prefer the original textures. But of course HDTP has nothign to do with this mod. That's something you can download separately.

The lighting in this game is atrocious. I can't believe there is literally a over-detailed round bulb "I'm in a better economic class than you" lights around every corner which completely destroys any chance you have of hiding in the shadows. The electricity bill for Paris must be in the billions per hour...

The music sounds like i'm being forced to eat my own crap while being told it's sexy. It's so weak, powerless and pussified with the softest of ♥♥♥♥♥ tones and lack of percussion I just want to take a few blocks out of my trenchcoat inventory for the vomit I wish to store there to avoid embarassment. I just imagine a castrated white suburbanite male who tries so desperately to get the attention of females that he will basically become a homosexual just to seem like Mr. Popular and Mr. In-crowd listening to this music in his Honda Civic while masturbating to gay porn magazines.

The models look like monkeys in the face, especially JC Denton/walton simons/Paul Denton, which are basically the same character model. They look ridiculous. As a matter of fact they look more like Napoleon dynamite.

Then there is the enemy interaction. Because the cities in the game obviously do not mind footing the million-dollar-per-hour utility bill, again, there is nowhere to hide and the enemies are often positioned in such a way you can't avoid getting into a fight. This just plain sucks...

And to top it off, it's DRM content. When I can just use new vision and HDTP with standard deus ex and it looks 10x better.

Ok, now onto some good news. The shifter mod for the ORIGINAL deus ex is really good you should try it. I have a certain version of it that allows you to vault/mount ledges like you would in the old Thief games. You can also switch off your cloak and armor vests to save their charges for later which is really a lifesaver in my opinion. Oh, but of course that doesn't have anything to do with DX:R.. but had to talk about something that doesn't make me feel ill.

That's like, your opinion man. I couldn't disagree with you more. I think Revision is great. I also don't get the soundtrack hate. Yes, the original was a modern classic and I can see the argument that the new soundtrack is less "electronic" than the original, but I think it's much more atmospheric. Revision takes Deus Ex and brings it into a new decade. If you don't like it, don't play it, and let those of us who do enjoy it do so in peace.

+1
Btw: you can change music, and models in menu.

I'll be upfront: imo, best mod for Deus Ex is GMDX. That said, Revision has its own goals and it meets them, more or less. Its just a matter of preference of how you want to play :\

I agree with Ratburger to a certain extent because I'm still on Liberty Island and haven't even made it to the statue!!!!!!!I I've played the old version several times over the years and loved it - this one I hate so far. They moved the medbot, I've found only one medkit, no biocells and more enemies!! I'm playing on medium and keep getting killed!! Plus all the trees they added make it hard to figure out where you are!! As for this statement from mattb5g - "If you don't like it, don't play it, and let those of us who do enjoy it do so in peace. ", grow up!! This is a forum for people to express their opinions, dummy!! If you don't like it, don't read it. Or run to your safe space so you don't get triggered!!

Mmm, yeah, I don't really want to ♥♥♥♥ on this mod, but so far, you do seem to have a point.

Especially with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lightbulbs.

Don't send an asian company to do a "revison" simple as that

I'm talking about Sqeenix that publish your stuff. Take a look at Thief, Hitman and all the other franchises they've ruined.

Deus Ex IP belongs to SE, and look what happened. I'd rather play an old DS with mods than this thing with mutators called "modifiers".

You're absolutely right. At first revision looks like a cool mod but then you wonder why it got on Steam and not gmdx which is an objectively better remaster mod in every way.
There's almost no dark areas in the entire game so sneaking around is relatively pointless and impossible. The broken Ai and imbalance game mechanics are still prevalent and actually even worse because they've been shoved into completely redesigned levels without any changes to pathing or alert response. Gmdx fix is the only problem with Deus ex 1: the unbalanced gameplay

Well, I had no issue to sneak around for the majority of the game... (only got a few missions left to do.) Sure I had to knock out a few enemies here and there but sneaking around still made life insanely easier. I have no idea why you are saying it is "pointless" or "impossible". You just need to be more creative with your approach.

I do admit I lost patience and went gun blazing with about 2 areas in the game. But, that's just like 2 maps... Rest was fine and stealth helped a lot.

My opinion might change with the later maps but so far I've seen nothing that warrants insulting the devs' work like the post you quoted. Even if you do not like it you should at least respect the amount of work that went into this.

GMDX is still my favourite mod but I've played Deus Ex so much over the years I know the maps like the back of my ass (Well, most of them. Especially the early game). Revision, while not perfect, gave me something new to chew on. For that alone, I am grateful.
