This plus Lords of Magic will not play when run for the first time. Extremely disappointed.

At home with Win 11, the game works well with an HDMI.
But I had to install Display Play which was asked to me at the 1st launch.

I use a Legion laptop with Windows 11. For a long while LOTR 2, Lords of Magic, would not load. Tried compatibility mode. Then one day literally all of a sudden Steam updated and bingo I could play both. The only thing I could think happened - and I am still getting used to Windows 11 since July this year, is to apply compatibility mode. Exit Steam. Restart the whole computer. Let Steam update. Try again. I know there is no logic there. Because I don't know WHY it suddenly worked. I hope that helps.

Game used to work fine, no issues. Suddenly no longer works, tried everything I can find online with capability changes, re-install of steam and LOR 2. Tried changing resolutions. You name it. Still cannot determine why this game suddenly no longer plays. Any thoughts?

Try compatibility mode, windows 8, and run in 640x480, that worked for me.

Did you go thru this file path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Lords of the Realm II\English\Lords of the Realm II?

And then do the properties of the exe file there?

Yes, the lotr2launcher

Sadly, nothing I have done has resolved the issue. It simply will not launch no matter what settings or re-installing the game. When running troubleshooter, it actually states the game isn't compatible. Not sure what else to do.

Tried all the compatibility stuff and nothing worked. Downloaded and installed DxWnd and it worked. Im still trying to get the main map scrolling to work, it seems to only work for up and left movement, but i can play the game.

I found several threads where people have problems running the game due to ATI graphics cards... since I have Nvidia i didnt continue to pursue any research for the root of this issue or if anyone found a fix... might be something to look into if you're using ATI.

my old laptop died, so i bought a new pc with win11 home. It arrived yesterday.
As i installed LOTR2, I was asked to download and install a necessary component. I think it was called dx direct play or something like that. Also, after first running the game, my antivirus apparently flagged Lords2.exe , but automatically placed the game in the safe app list. (any chance either of these could be an issue for someone?)

Anyway after this the game ran. unfortunately i have widescreen and for some reason it gets stretched and distorted, and i couldnt handle the look, so i quit. But the game seems to be running just fine. Can't seem to figure out how to disable the aspect ratio or whatever it is that's causing the stretch.

I tried to go the dxwind route as some people have had success with it, but I can't seem to locate the Lords2.dxw file for the import...

You might try playing windowed mode to counter the widescreen issues
