I believe this happens over time, regardless. Fellow gluttons rejoice. However, keep an eye on your food rations so as not to be caught in a famine season.
Go full Grain and repair your fields anytime you lose one. Every starting County will have no problem sustaining itself. That includes when your starting county breaks 2k pop.
You'll have so much excess that you can sell it off, or send it to other counties to help them grow as you expand.
If you're done, are you talking about well done, like a delicious triple bacon cheeseburger with mushrooms, onions, garlic mayo, mustard, BBQ sauce, pickles, lettuce, tomato, two fried eggs, and a thin slice of ham?
But, yes, go full wheat fields to feed your counties in this game. It takes less manpower to produce wheat than it does to produce cows.
Cows also dial off as your population goes up due to there never being enough fields to space out the herd in the space they need. It's a very fine balance between Population and Dairy. Grow too much, they'll eat all your cows and you'll be left starving. Grow too little and the herd won't be able to sustain itself and will suffer losses that stagnate your food supply.
I really wish they thought through Herding a little more than what we saw from Lords 1.
Always save the game every turn and then reload the last turn, chances are, your province will not get the black death, next turn you initiate.
Yes, this is a cheat and I am not sure if it works when using multi-player mode.
