Looking for similar games
Hello.

I'm looking for similar RTS style games like oldschool Lords of the Realm and Knights and Merchants. Are there any around? I know about Medieval Total War, Settlements and Stronghold. Any others?

Age of Empires(the entire series) isnt really the same as LOTR2. The same basic setup, honestly, is the total war series.

I recommend Rome Total War (the first one) if you want a great game with a classic feel.

I also recommend Empire TW if youre ok with mainly gunpowder units (think mass bow/crossbow armies in LOTR2).

Otherwise, Rome 2 TW is great so long as you use Radius Mod, same for Warhammer TW.

Basically, if you want as close to the same setup as possible, the total war series is it. If you want great strategy games, there are tons. (Homeworld FTW)

Try the Anno series. especially between 1200 and 1800 dated. Also tropico etc

castles is an old game which from what i understand rings the same tone. Now for a more recent game that covers food and tax systems with a weaker concept on population control would be stronghold. If you decide to dive into stronghold avoid anything past stronghold 2 the game got worst with each rendition.

Empire Rising is a new game that was heavily inspired by LOTR2. It's a web game at http://empirerising.net/ . If you have any feedback you can leave it in the forum for the developers because the game is still very new.

I recently bought Medieval Kingdom Wars in the sale, I'd have to say I get somewhat of a similar vibe and satisfaction from that game. Still, nothing can quite replace Lords Of The Realm 2 for me. It's just too nostalgic and if anyone could be motivated to remake this game with updated graphics and some AI tweaks, I'd be more than happy to buy the game or support it.

For anyone stilll interested in this thread, Knighs of Honor is probably the closest to this game. In fact I'd actually say it's better as it encompasses a lot more on the map and there are mods for it, including one that gives HD. Medieval Kingdom Wars is another that has potential.
