faeria vs hearthstone
How this paired with Hearthstone gameplay wise and it's worth the cost in the long run. I mean myself been playing hearthstone sine release from beta and invested a lot of money and time, so wanted to know if this is a good alternative.

This is way better than hearthstone as it has the extra dimensions of resource management, and land placement, which is very unique and fun. The art, although hearthstone also has great art, is amazing, and the style of which is pretty unique adds a lot to the feel. The gameplay is also far more creative, and less stagnant. The meta is far more flexibile, and there is much more skill involved. That being said, it really comes down to whether or not you enjoy it. My IGN is Valcrist if you need a recruiter, or friend to play games with.

This doesn't mean the game isn't fun but you asked for a comparison and in my personal opinion both games aim to make money by implementing long grinding methods and super slow progression. They are both fun card games but just don't be blind they are definitely pay to win.

"free to play" is a bit misleading, its more freemium. A combination of the words "free" and "premium" used to describe a business model that offers both free and premium services. The freemium business model works by offering simple and basic services for free for the user to try and more advanced or additional features at a premium.

So if you want to be competitive in Faeria as f2p players you can't do whatever you like or play decks you wish. You just trade your time and become slave grinding for cards before you can say i have enough card to explore this game to the max.

Faeria as it was after kickstarter is kinda dead. Now its just another CCG with unique twist. I love this game but i think developer went way to far with their monetisation thingy. And lets be honest we all love gambling in one form or another.

Shadowverse have one of the best business model, similar to what Faeria had in the begining, but they changed it and made it more pay to skip boring part and gamble your way into freedom.

Faeria is still good game, thats for sure but you will need to invest rl cash or play as casually as possible without thinking about being in top player list anytime soon.

I concur

Really though, it doesn't take too long to get a good collection for top tier decks. I'd say 3-4 months. Considering three things mostly, those being that Faeria, as of now, does not have a lot of cards, so you will more quickly gather them than most other ccgs. Secondly, Faeria is more generous than most ccgs with rewards for acquiring more cards. Thirdly, and this is not unique to Faeria, but there is crafting like in Hearthstone, which also help getting cards. Log in bonuses, quest bonuses, and pandora mode will all help you get gold. If you enjoy the game, totally worth it, and won't take you too long to get the cards you want(3-4 months long, most likely less, and compared to most ccgs, this is pretty short).
EDIT: The oversky cards are very good, although not necessary for top tier decks, so pay to win is an exaggeration, although of course, like in any other game, paying does help, or cuts time down to get cards. Up to you, but doable if you enjoy it.

@Gundalf the only thing i hate in faeria is crafting because its the same old and boring system as every bloody ccg uses. Its a shame such unique game have crafting system like that.

Faeria is not generous, its kinda okeish. Yes its a bit better than HS, but its far below some ccgs i know.

Oh, guys do you still remember what Faeria devs promised us?

"We will not sell cards through micropayments simply because we would not feel right doing so. We want everyone to be treated equally. Faeria is a one-time purchase TCG, Pay2Win is for scrubs.
Microtransactions in Faeria will be restricted to comestic features like avatars, more detailed account plaques, alternate creature tokens, etc."

So what happened here? I know, i know their master plan failed and they had to change game into grindy mess for f2p users.

On average newbie could get 1 pack per day if he would play ~3 hours. What about Oversky, its massive road block for new players. Its like 2nd job for f2p players.

I just can't recommend this to players who think faeria will be heaven for them. No it won't.
If you want to enjoy this awesome game you gonna need to pay money and its ok.

I guess we won't see eye to eye on this. It seems like you're asking for not having to pay or grind at all to have every card. It really doesn't take long. I played quests, logged in, and pandora, without spending any money, and have all Oversky. About two weeks. It's not that bad.
On the crafting, ya, it's exactly the same as Hearthstone. How would you envision it? It could be more interesting.
Also, wondering what other ccgs you play? I have tried Hex: Shards of Fate, which IS fun, don't get me wrong, but it is severely pay to win. Have you played Duelyst? That is another ccg which looks fun, but I don't know much about it.

PS: I didn't know the devs promised that, if so that's a bit of a shame, but I guess they have to make money somehow? Apparently people don't find the need to spend that much. The Oversky Islands can be purchased with gold earned in game, so technically not a microtransaction as it doesn't require real money. They really need to get a move on with porting to iphone and android.

Magic the gathering, Gwent, Hearthstone, Faeria and Shadowverse. Tried other card games like Spellweaver, Hex, The Elder Scrolls: Legends...

Talking about generosity in ccgs, i would say Shadowverse have best f2p progression. Its not game for everyone but they know how to manage monetisation in ccgs.

Every new player get 50 booster packs (8 cards each), after you finish all your free Pve missions with all classes you get ~35 more booster packs. Everyday you get daily quests worth 1.5-3 booster packs in total depends on quests ofc they range from 20 to 100, and you have 1 passive just for login and 3 active ones. So 4 everyday. Plus you get reward for everything, new levels, ranked points etc...

In your first week you can get 1 tier1 deck that will work even at grand master (highest tier competitive ranked mode).

I would say, at the end of first month you should have 135-150 packs for free. And 50 more each month after that.

Thats what i would call generocity in ccgs.

You can buy cards packs with rl money ofc, even some premade basic decks if you wish.

Thats how i imagine Faeria should be, and not this pay me or go grind for few month and maybe you can play with big boys. Now every newbie get like 15-20 faeria packs and good luck in your adventures.

As for crafting in ccgs its nothing more but ingame trading system with npc vendor. You can't do anything else.

I'm not against spending money on ccgs like Faeria, but developers should state that game is not balanced around casual f2p customers to avoid false hope and unrealistic expectations.

PS: Oversky is even more expensive compared to HS adventures.

I think it is also worth comparing this to Magic The gathering: Tactics. A failed tactical version of the game Magic The Gathering that SOE produced years back. This game effectively is a well thought out and fixed version of that. It has four colors (instead of 5 in MTG) rather than the classes in Hearthstone, and you can mix them like in Magic. It solved the Land problem that SOE completely botched in MTG Tactics.

It does def take some cues from HS; but avoids most of that games pitfalls as well.

This is basically a mashup of the best elements of MTG and HS. It is a wonderful game.

It is quite easy to play F2P as well. I have been playing just over a week and have only put in 9.99 for the starter bundle, and that was just because I believe in supporting games I actually enjoy. I have managed to reach rank 1 (struggling to get to God before the month ends on Monday) and could have done it without paying anything. My money went to unlocking some Oversky stuff, and my deck uses none of the cards that gave me.

I find overall the game gives you far more cards for grinding than HS does. Some aspects are more expensive than HS if you were to spend money; but I think overal the game is cheaper and rewards far more skill and is a lot less RNG based than HS (my biggest beef with that game, Brode keeps pushing Casino style gameplay.) I find my experience playing Magic for decades as well as my experience with MTG Tactics and HS all translate really well here. If you have played any or all of these games, you will find this very familiar.

I worry for the future of this game though. The Faeria board seems to have slowed down at some point, last Meta snapshot I was able to find was from November, and matchmaking can be slow and its matching me with a lot of people from other ranks (and even casual) so the player base seems it may be small. I may be wrong though, I have not been here long enough to really tell and that may be just here in North America. Game seems more popular overseas.

I really enjoy this game, there is also quite a lot of activity in the community considering it's small size and people are also nice in general.

Like you I also believe in supporting games I like, so I bought a starter pack and the Oversky adventures but I think it is not necessary to enjoy the game.

As comparing this to HS, I like this game much more! The only thing I miss is the voice acting; I think it would be nice to have special sounds on legendary cards for a start.

Did you try to play eternal? is the closest thing to hearthstone, keeps the f2ps and is quite generous with the cards as shadowverse, but not everybody likes the anime graphs of shadowverse.
