I'm worried about getting a Cd key from sites

You can never go wrong with a physical copy. It will work either way. Though by my experience most people didn't know or care about activating it on steam back then and a lot still doesn't know since it's not mentioned on the box so most open box games are still eligible for activation.

At the time, Triton was around. They ended up shutting down months later, and all keys (Triton & retail) were made to work on Steam.
The boxart was never updated to mention that Triton no longer existed..

Physical boxes came with 3 CDs or 1 DVD, and the included CD key was needed to install/play the game.
The game was installed in Program Files/PREY.

An update removed the disc check from the game.

You would have to check the boxart to make sure you getting a key for the 2006 (Human Head) or 2017 (Arkane) Prey.

That's crazy, and the mind blowing thing is I have a physical copy, and that's how I added this to Steam. The saddest thing here is no one can easily acquire keys anymore.

Game was one of its kind, and its name itself is kind of washed from history..

If I were you I would still ask if the Steam key was used before buying an open copy. And if they are the original owners of the copy. And that you fully expect to use the key on Steam. If they can pm you a photo of the key so that you don't have to wait for the box to arrive, better. : )

I don't understand how the prices got so high. I got it for $.97 about two years ago.

I recommend checking ebay regularly. Almost won an auction for a new copy last week for nearly $40 (maybe the person above got it) because I found another copy the day the auction was to end for $9... hope whoever paid $40 really loves this game, cause a brand new boxed copy for $9 can't be beat!

Got mine last night on kingquin for 35 dollars. Worth it imo
