Camera controls: fixed distance (an actual option, and not the in-game mechanic), height, and whether it focus you o the track
Keep the nice work :)
After soe time I came back to see if something has changed and I was surprised. Bought it again when was summer sale and I am very positively surprised. The game is fantastic. The sounds, graphics, vehicles, tracks...just WOW!
Issues? Don't see any yet, I wish there were more tracks but it will come for sure as the game develops.
This game is quite possibly the best AG racer on Steam right now.
(I had a discussion with a friend ages ago whether or not GRIP really counts as an AG Racer or not - the game has no respect for gravity, so I say that's what makes it AG, whether the vehicles have tyres or not is irrelevant.)
Anyways, before I offer my criticism, I just want to counter an earlier post and say that I actually like the brief weapons delay.
My criticism is all to do with air control and staggering.
The air control is OK, but too clunky. And as far as I can tell, you can only roll, you can't pitch?
If pitching is possible, it's too slow to ever be of any use.
If BS weapons like the Assassin Missile are going to do so much staggering, then at least let players have the ability to correct themselves in the air, no matter what corners or obstacles are ahead.
Landing on the track backwards is a nightmare, being able roll cannot correct this, but being able to pitch could.
tl;dr -
Add pitching
Increase air control speed
If I can make another criticism, and this is a tiny criticism -
Game dialogue could do with being more formal.
Have you guys played Carmaggeddon? Specifically the latest one, Max Damage/Reincarnation?
Oh my god that game is dreadful for a whole load of reasons. But one of the issues I had with it was its dumb dad jokes and childish humour. It's so cringey seeing 'Lost it' when you get destroyed in GRIP. Just say 'Eliminated' or 'Destroyed', please don't try to be cool.
Or 'one unlucky sumb_tch' might soon disappear.
1. 4k Screen support, for some reason when I play this game in full screen on my 4k screen alienware 15 r3 with nvidia 1070, the mouse cursor isn't centered on where it's actually clicking. For example I have to hover the cursor over the top left corner somewhere of the menu to be able to click single player instead of hovering directly over it.
2. Controller support throughout. I would love to be able to use the menus using my ps4 controller connected through steams api. Right now I can use the controller when I get into a game but not in the menus, that's the other big gripe I have and fixing this would make the 1st issue not a problem.
The game is chaotic enough as it is, having to struggle against the controls/physics to keep the cars on the track isn't fun. I would rather be focusing on shooting the other cars or making that racing line a bit better.
Awesome game, just wish it wasn't so unforgiving in trying to stay on the track.
EDIT: Not asking for full aeroplane air-control. Just would like to add yaw (or pitch) to the existing air control (already have roll)
Two words for you: GIT GUD!
Get good at having no control over random physics!
Yaw would be neat, but my concern would be how would you map it? L/R on the stick is already being used for the roll. Rocket League has you hold another button to change the yaw into roll, which might work here, but the game already has the player releasing the accelerator to roll for some weird reason.
Pitch is fairly forgiving as the car will just slam into position once you hit the ground if you have a odd pitch, provided you are still facing somewhat forward.
Not sure how to map it so it's not weird. Although you can yaw using only pitch and roll so just adding pitch could work but you'd probably need to increase the turning speed a little.
Having a button to go to the next music track would also be nice.
And beeing able to jump 20 seconds or so forward in the song to skip long intros.
