NEED FEEDBACK! - Tell us your biggest gripe with GRIP
Hey all,

Since we have such a small team, we have a really tight priority list, but we still do our best to take community feedback and sometimes adjust priorities based on urgency of issues. We take all feedback seriously, and I hope that's apparent by our participation in the community, and the changes we make in our updates to the game.

With this thread, I'd like to gauge how people feel about the current version of GRIP and what their most concerning issues are with it. I won't give examples of what I think are issues (spoiler: there are many :p), but rather let you guys spill your thoughts into this thread without any influence.

So, with the current version of the game, what is the #1 thing that bothers you most? What causes you to sigh a deep breath of frustration, or curse loud enough to wake up Elvis, or even rage quit with a nice whip of the controller into a nearby wall?

Keep in mind that all of those things can also happen due to getting beat bad by another player. We're looking for potential problems with the game though ;)

!!PLEASE only comment with a MAX of TWO issues that are at the top of your list!!
This thread was created to narrow down what players are most concerned about, so writing an essay response will not help.

Do keep in mind that the shorter and more succinct your reply, the better! I'm quite busy and you'd probably I rather work on creating more racetracks than read Steam discussions all day, right? ;)

Items delay. They have an starting animation that, although they look nice, in a racing game i think you want it to be instant. Also i would like to be able to pick up another item right after.

Camera controls: fixed distance (an actual option, and not the in-game mechanic), height, and whether it focus you o the track

Keep the nice work :)

I have bought the game some time ago and requested a refund because it was ...boring 🙁
After soe time I came back to see if something has changed and I was surprised. Bought it again when was summer sale and I am very positively surprised. The game is fantastic. The sounds, graphics, vehicles, tracks...just WOW!
Issues? Don't see any yet, I wish there were more tracks but it will come for sure as the game develops.

Hello! I just picked up the game this morning after keeping an eye on the game for quite some time at this point.
This game is quite possibly the best AG racer on Steam right now.
(I had a discussion with a friend ages ago whether or not GRIP really counts as an AG Racer or not - the game has no respect for gravity, so I say that's what makes it AG, whether the vehicles have tyres or not is irrelevant.)

Anyways, before I offer my criticism, I just want to counter an earlier post and say that I actually like the brief weapons delay.

My criticism is all to do with air control and staggering.
The air control is OK, but too clunky. And as far as I can tell, you can only roll, you can't pitch?
If pitching is possible, it's too slow to ever be of any use.
If BS weapons like the Assassin Missile are going to do so much staggering, then at least let players have the ability to correct themselves in the air, no matter what corners or obstacles are ahead.
Landing on the track backwards is a nightmare, being able roll cannot correct this, but being able to pitch could.

tl;dr -
Add pitching
Increase air control speed

If I can make another criticism, and this is a tiny criticism -
Game dialogue could do with being more formal.
Have you guys played Carmaggeddon? Specifically the latest one, Max Damage/Reincarnation?
Oh my god that game is dreadful for a whole load of reasons. But one of the issues I had with it was its dumb dad jokes and childish humour. It's so cringey seeing 'Lost it' when you get destroyed in GRIP. Just say 'Eliminated' or 'Destroyed', please don't try to be cool.
Or 'one unlucky sumb_tch' might soon disappear.

My 2 biggest issues in order of importance
1. 4k Screen support, for some reason when I play this game in full screen on my 4k screen alienware 15 r3 with nvidia 1070, the mouse cursor isn't centered on where it's actually clicking. For example I have to hover the cursor over the top left corner somewhere of the menu to be able to click single player instead of hovering directly over it.

2. Controller support throughout. I would love to be able to use the menus using my ps4 controller connected through steams api. Right now I can use the controller when I get into a game but not in the menus, that's the other big gripe I have and fixing this would make the 1st issue not a problem.

  1. Almost no air control: As soon as the car leaves the track, you loose all control (Slight roll isn't much). If you go airbourne in anything less than a perfect angle, you end up losing all control and crash. Having some way to try and adjust a bad jump or have a better chance of recovery after the car looses traction would be very nice.
  2. Invasive scenery. The maps have a lot of scenery that can wipe you out if you touch them and a lot of it is placed right in the racing line. See Yuri Industrial left side tunnel (columns) and after that section, the metal structure after the jump. Issues can be classed into small bits of scenery that will wreck you day if you touch them to larger segments that make the racing line annoying (see those crates in transport)

The game is chaotic enough as it is, having to struggle against the controls/physics to keep the cars on the track isn't fun. I would rather be focusing on shooting the other cars or making that racing line a bit better.

Awesome game, just wish it wasn't so unforgiving in trying to stay on the track.

EDIT: Not asking for full aeroplane air-control. Just would like to add yaw (or pitch) to the existing air control (already have roll)

I'd say give some more graphics performace options and make sure level design makes sense. If I take an alternate harder route I want to know that I will gain on the opponents if executed right.

Having air control would ruin this game!
Two words for you: GIT GUD!

Cloud save would be nice

First race was awful - these ANNOYING tips every 3-4 sec with pause on 2-3 sec - it was TERRIBLE, can i JUST DRIVE ONE lap? Can you input tips on loading screen? or show them lately? ill try game after some updates. Well, thanks for normall 21*9 AR, but default was smth about 1280*700

Yeah, Lex you scrub!
Get good at having no control over random physics!

I agree! Please do not add air control. These are cars not airplanes.
Lex_ Jun 25, 2017 @ 7:47am
Not asking for aeroplane, just being able to adjust yaw and roll mid-air a subtle amount. We already have roll aircontrol, I'd like if it included yaw.

See, I'd rather have pitch.

Yaw would be neat, but my concern would be how would you map it? L/R on the stick is already being used for the roll. Rocket League has you hold another button to change the yaw into roll, which might work here, but the game already has the player releasing the accelerator to roll for some weird reason.

Pitch is fairly forgiving as the car will just slam into position once you hit the ground if you have a odd pitch, provided you are still facing somewhat forward.

Not sure how to map it so it's not weird. Although you can yaw using only pitch and roll so just adding pitch could work but you'd probably need to increase the turning speed a little.

Not having seperate audio sliders for environment, your own vehicle and pickups/soundeffects (3 sliders for sound + 1 for music). Sometimes it sounds like racing in a beehive :|

Having a button to go to the next music track would also be nice.
And beeing able to jump 20 seconds or so forward in the song to skip long intros.
