Enabling HDR gives washed-out, dull colors
I have Windows 10 with the latest NVIDIA drivers for my RTX 2080 and a HDR400-compliant Gigabyte AORUS AD27QD monitor (latest firmware).

Enabling HDR mode in Windows 10's Settings makes Windows look terrible, so I don't do that.

I should still be able to enable it on a game-by-game basis, though.

When I enable HDR mode inside GRIP: Combat Racing, the game's colors are very washed out and grey-looking.

Any ideas?

I just got the game and can confirm that HDR does not work properly in GRIP just as you described. I play on a Phillips 55PUS7502/12 HDR tv.

While i do not have the issues with the windows desktop being terrible when HDR is enable, the colours in GRIP are washed out and HDR is definitely not working.

Redout uses UE4 and has HDR and that works fine so it's a problem with the game.

Just chiming in that I have the same issue. Tried enabling in game only and both Windows display options+in game.

I have LG B6 + 2080t (latest game ready driver) with display option set at 4:2:2 10bit.

I am experiencing the same thing. Other HDR content works fine, just not GRIP.

Still the problem persists. Can't get proper colours with HDR enabled (though my screen is HDR capable).

This is a very new feature, only given relatively light testing at the publishers but with no apparent problems that we saw. We'll put it back into test again with a wider variety of equipment and fix up what we can. Effectively though, there really is just a couple of parameters we can adjust in UE4 to affect this, it's not really a problem with the game as opposed to a possible misconfiguration of the engine. Let's hope we can tune it up for a better display.

If it helps, I play on a Samsung LC27HG70QQUXEN connected to a GeForce GTX 1070.

Haha, as chance would have it, I play with the exact same setup!!!

Thanks Codemonkey for looking into it. It's not really high priority in my book but would be a nice to have.

I might also note, that I tried all kinds of combinations with fullscreen, borderless and windowed. Sometimes it would look good untill the loading screen came on.

HDR was also tested and worked in Battlefield V.

Indeed, it does look like this was a misconfiguration error - we rushed it out too quickly with the main focus being on AirBlades for that particular release. It's now been fixed and will be part of the next release due out shortly - within the next couple of weeks.

Any update on this?

Received an update to the game today but HDR is still washed out when enabled :(

Any idea when this is going to be fixed as HDR is still not working as of right now.

Managed to get this working on mine. Game now looks beautiful in HDR.

Settings needed:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Grip\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini

[/script/engine.gameusersettings]
bUseHDRDisplayOutput=True
HDRDisplayOutputNits=1000

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Grip\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Engine.ini

[SystemSettings]
r.HDR.EnableHDROutput=1
r.HDR.Display.OutputDevice=5
r.HDR.UI.CompositeMode=1
r.HDR.Display.ColorGamut=2

Have a play with the OutputDevice and ColorGamut settings to see what works best for you. Docs are here: https://docs.unrealengine.com/en-US/Engine/Rendering/HDRDisplayOutput/index.html

EDIT: Adding r.HDR.UI.Level=2 to Engine.ini [SystemSettings] improves the brightness of the UI
