Hope this helps you guys having same problem.
Switch to the Tab called Playback, right click on your Speakers or Headphone and choose properties.
Now go to the tab called expanded options, the right-most tab.
Sorry I'm using a german Version of Windows 7 64-bit.
If your Soundcard or onboard sound is 24-bit Capable switch to 24-bit 48000khz, or 16-bit 48000 khz.
Arcania doesn't seem to like the 96000 khz setting.
If you set it to 48000 kHz you don't need to use the Compatibility mode.
Strangely enough, none of the old (true) Gothics (1, 2 and 3) have a problem with that setting, even though Gothic 1 and 2 are more than ten years old, by now.
BTW I wasn't the one to find this workaround, the Credit goes to Bauchmann and SgtFopper of the german World of Gothic Forums.
I hope that helps you.
Okay I done all this and still not working really getting annoyed with this!!!!! WTF is going on???
Running Win7 64bit
I7 2700
GTX560
8Gb DDR3

this is what the "details" are any help would be appreciated!
I just got this via a deal on Green Man Gaming for $1. This was the problem that kept me the game crashing on startup. I switched my onboard sound to 48000 kHz and it fired right up. Thanks for the help.

As soon as i used this method the game is up and running 100% thats really horribly wired so you have to lower your sound card setting.
Thank you.
