I have Windows 7 and ran the game in Windows XP (service pack 3). It works fine after that. You can do this by right clicking on the .exe file in the games directory. GL

Exit Steam, then start Steam again, but in administrator mode.
Then launch the game as you usually would, from Steam.

You do this by right clicking Steam.exe, then selecting Start in Administrator mode.
This worked perfect for me in Windows 7 Ultimate 64.

Game works great on Windows 8.1 x64 no problems at all no compatibility options set. And it runs better than it ever did with Windows 7 as does most every other game I have.

Windows 8 is great for gaming much better than any previous Microsoft OS by far.

Yeah, thats why most game developers came out publicly about how awful the OS is and how they wouldnt be supporting it right?

If you happen to use Avast! anti virus, there is a conflict. Switch to anything else, and the game will work.

Runnig it as Admin, running Steam as Admin, shutting down Avast - Nothing is working for me! Running windows 7 Pro X64. Not a hardware issue as I can run much more resource hungry games on ultra. Thank god this was just an extra game from a Humble Bundle for me. Looks like this is going to be an uninstall -_-.

Same problem for me. Ran fine on my previous Win8 computer with Avast. Nothing seems to change it on this. I stops working after opening the black launch window but before it displays anything else game related.

My C:/ drive is a SSD that is used for my OS, all my games are installed under two different 500GB HDD's... But still, Would that make a difference where all of my other games, Steam related or not, are stored and have no isses? My F:/ drive where it was installed has 400GB filled with games so I'd really rather not format it :/ lol.

If it works fine for us the problem is yours, not the game. don't you think?
