Arcania crashes on startup
I am unable to get Arcania to start (I'm running windows 7 Home Premium, SP1, 64 bit).
When I try to run it, I get am 800x600 black window, followed by the message that "Arcania
has stopped working."

I am far from the first person to encounter this problem. A search shows many people with the
issue and some of the things they've attempted to fix it. Below are the various things I have
already tried - to no avail:

- Set Arcania.exe compatability mode to Win XP, SP 2 and 3
- Run Arcania and/or Steam as Administrator.
- Uninstall/Manually install vcredist.msi (VC++ 2005).
- Uninstall/Manually install PhysX - both the one with the game and directly from NVidia.
- Copy the cudatrt32 and cudart64 dll files from the PhysX directory into Arcania's.
- Set the speakers to 24 Bits and 48000 Hz
- Futzed with the display resoulution. Native is 1600x900, 32bit, 60Hz
Tried 1024x768 at both 16 and 32bits, also 800x600 and 32 bits.
- Disabled the steam overlay.
- Added a '-novid' startup parameter.
- "Disable" Crossfire. This is a laptop with one graphics card, Crossfire is not an option.
- I never had the demo.

Anything else I can try?

well your PC is more than powerful enough to run the game for sure. I wont be able to help you out. I only have 2 questions and it is are you using a TV or PC monitor. I found when I used my TV a lot of games would not work where as those same games now run because I am using an actual PC monitor. I never had problems with this game though. have you looked to see if anyone is able to run it on windows 8?

Indeed, I'm using Win 8.1 64 bit, with Radeon 7850.

Ok, for anyone with crash problem, this is how i solved it.
I deleted all the arcania and arcania demo (because i had installed it) in the Documents folder.
Then i started the game, and Steam downloaded Physx software...and then the game worked.

I'm going to give that a try, and hopefully it works, because I bought this game in 2013 and STILL haven't gotten it to run yet.
The 24 minutes I have in the game, is loading it and watching it crash to the desktop

Try deleting every Physx folder and uninstall Nvidia Physx before reinstalling Arcania.
