Smuggling Alcohol - How Does It Work?
I've been playing the game off and on for a few years now and I've never really understood how smuggling alcohol works. I know how to buy it, but what do I do with it? Do I put it in my sales stock? Do I have to use some kind of action to pass it around? I really don't know.

I have always put it in my sales stock, I believe(I cant confirm) that it increases patronage in your tavern.

I really don't see the point of it. Alcohol is expenstive and you get nothing in return.

Its been a while since i have had an smugglers hole, but if you put someone on serving, doesnt it get sold like that?

Well, the sale price is only 1 gold per unit. That makes me think I'm using it wrong by putting it in the sales stock. I don't know for sure though.

You don't pop in sales stock. The gold listing of 1 gold is how much it would sell for if you took it to market or put it in sales stock, not how much people will pay for it. The price is based on the charisma of whatever wench is set to "serve drinks". You can have one of them perform a dance too, which I think increases sales. It's been a while since I've played so I could well be wrong.

So make sure you allocate someone to serve drinks and they should sell them for at least 100 gold to guests.

So as long as it's in my tavern's inventory while I serve drinks, people can buy it?

I'll start a pub tonight and fiddle with it to confirm for you - been a while since I've made one. :)
Since making that last post, I played for another 5ish days in game with 60 rum and grog in the building and serving nonstop, but none of them were bought.

As someone else said, the money from selling grog/rum comes from "tips" to your waitresses, which depend upon their charisma, not from actual sales. It's strange that no one comes to your pub, are you sure that the grog/rum are in the sales slots in the building UI, not just in the inventory stock?

I don't sell anything in my pubs because I run out of stock too often and I can make just as much if not more money by sending my "waitresses" out to solicit services.
I never said people don't come to my pub, tons of people do. I have my 10 charisma character serving there.

I have it in my inventory stock because "Lammiwinks" said not to put it in the sales stock. He said that if you put it there, it just gets bought for 1 gold.

It seems like no one knows for sure how this works. I really hope a developer responds to this.

So did some testing - I was wrong. You do put it in the sales stock. It only lists a base price of 1gold (as it can't be sold at the market). It will actually sell for more.

This is the basis of how it works.

1) People enter your pub, and will be partying away, and will always leave a tip (10,20,30 gold). If they are there longer they may leave more than one tip.

2) By having a girl "serving" people will stay for longer and leave more tips. It's recommended to leave one serving at all times.

3) Whilst they are there they will become thirsty and will look for sale items - namely Small Beers, Wheat Beers (if you buy them and put them in your pub), Pirates Grog and Rum.

4) They will then determine how many of these items they "buy". They buy more if a girl is dancing.

5) They then remove the number of items (e.g. say you had high Charisma and a Girl dancing they might take 3 Pirates Grogs) and will pay 20 per Grog, 50 per Rum.

6) Whenever they "buy drinks" they always leave another tip.

So say for example someone comes in, drops a 20 gold tip, buys 2 Grogs (40 gold) and leaves a second tip of 30 - you've gained 90 gold. If you have someone serving and they stick around they may even tip again.

The kicker here is that they don't pay more depending on the number of grogs/rum they take and for only 20/40 gold per item - you're actually only really making money with their tips. I haven't tested this but I think you're better off if a girl isn't dancing as you really only want them to take 1 grog/rum per cycle so you can generate more tips from it.

Overall it doesn't make much money at all - I think most of the money comes from the "salicious services" which work based off your girls charisma (can be 500g or more per "spin" with her!).

You can also hire an assassin from a Pub to kill someone - I'm not sure if you get this cheaper/free if you own the Pub - I'll test that later on too.
You can hire assassins in the pub? How do you do that? Also thanks for the testing!

My apologies, the assassin is a feature of the Legacy mod - not in the vanilla version :).

* Hire an Assassin
- Want someone dead without the need to get your hands dirty ? Go to a tavern or hedge tavern between midnight and 02:00am and hire yourself an assassin. Remember that the more distinguished the target the more it will cost (takes into account title and office)
- Targets with low disposition are 10% of the normal cost.
- Tavern Owner gets 10% cut of what you pay...if you own the tavern think of it as a 10% discount

I've played too much legacy!
