The Guild II: Renaissance

No one accepts my gifts!!!
I've tried to give a variety of items to every class of people. My generosity is rewarded with a smack to the face 100% of the time. I don't understand what's happening. Help?

This can be caused by a variety of factors. Most of all - if the people don't like you to begin with, they are likely to decline most positive actions.

If you do a social action in a courting way (anything else than "compliment" I reckon), and the people in question (or you) are already married, they'll tell you off.

Then, your gift might simply be bad. Try engangement rings or cake.

I've only ever used gifts for courting, so it might be that it's a courting action - and hence fails if any of you two already is married.

Alternatively, try improving your relationship first, by using bribery - the one thing that's rarely, if ever, declined. It can really turn a relationship arround. See if gifts are accepted at higher relationship levels.

Beyond what was already said, you need to check the social status of the person you're giving a gift to. Some stuff is meant for peasants, the poor, others for the very rich. If you try and give a very rich person a piece of bread for example, you'll get smacked. That's an insult to that person's status, trying to give him stuff meant for a beggar. Your social status is also taken into consideration. If you're a simple peasant, some gifts will not be accepted by those above you, it would be beneath their social position to acknowledge you.
So the only way to fix all the fueds I caused with the King's family is to give them all of my money?

Perfume can be helpful in raising your standing. Also, ensure that you promply remove any negative pamphlets about your dynasty at the marketplace.

It's very easy to see massive popularly declines simply by leaving pamphlets up. Negative standing also occurs if you fail to keep your goods stores stocked with what people want - just sit and watch your stores and see if people are leaving unsatisfied.

You can see what kind of person likes each giftable item by right-clicking. Compare that to the type of person, as stated above.

I think the seneshal or similar job title is a position which allows you to bury feuds as a special ability. Try getting that position (seeing as there is a king, the position should be availible).

Also, I've never seen that in action, but I seem to recall from the manual that resolving a duel with a member of a faction will put you back on neutral standing.

Maybe one of these days I'll compile an actual helpful guild 2 manual.
Thanks fellas. The king ordered his thugs to burn down my farm and murder my wife, so I have to restart. I'll try this out from the start.

That's awesome. In my game the Queen is constantly asking for protection money, but I never pay since I have thugs guarding the property and I've just begun producing good weapons and armor. I'm thinking of challenging her to a duel or striking back with pamphlets.

All you need to do is start using accessories like rings and even clothes. Anytime you walk by a person with accessories on, you'll get a + to relationship. It's very easy to get people to like you once you use rings.

I like to have a family member who is active in town center doing things like preaching or selling quicksalves. This one I have constantly applying perfume. Perfume does around +5 reputation to any person passing by. A drop in the bucket, until you realize that everybody's dynasty constantly goes through the town center. That literally hundreds of positive regard for just smelling nice. On the same note, if I see a hated dynasty linger in such areas, I throw toad excrement on them.
