The Guild II: Renaissance

Not responding - Multiplayer creation
My sister and I are trying to connect through LAN to play the Guild 2. The LAN connection works fine, but both of us are having problems creating a game. The exact steps we do are:

1. At start screen, click Multiplayer
2. Choose LAN
3. Create name
4. Press Start a New Game
5. Choose town, players, years per round, etc.
6. Press continue at the bottom right, and it freezes the entire system.

When we press the continue button we can still move the mouse around and the button is selected but nothing is happening. The background is frozen as well and the taskbar refuses to close the game. I am using an old XP machine for my Guild 2 (since it will not work on my Windows 7 machine) and my sister is using a Windows 8 computer. We both have the same problem with starting a new game. We have both tried modifying firewall and antivirus protection to no avail. We are sure our specs are both fine, and doubt that the specs are the problem. This version of the game is not the Steam version and has been updated to the final patch 4.20. Playing this years ago, we never had this problem. If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks everyone!

Here are my system specs, if it helps at all:

1. Radeon HD 6500 graphics
2. Three Athlon II X3 445 processors
3. 8 gigabytes of RAM on a Windows 7 64-bit system

I'm afraid I don't fully understand. The connection doesn't seem to be the problem, it's that the multiplayer game refuses to start up at all. The singleplayer works fine, but the game just slows to a crawl and stops completely, freezing the entire computer. If you are asking if we use Tunngle to connect to each other's computer, I'll tell you that we do not, and if you are saying that it might be something to try, I can say that I'll take that into consideration. Thank you for your reply.

yes very much you need to as it no longer is supported for multiplayer Hamachi can be used however out of sync errors happen too much with that program. Tunngle is relatively stable for mp and thats what the runeforge forums say to use.

Oh ok, thank you very much for clarifying that for me. We've had more than our fair share of out of sync issues before, but nothing of this magnitude where the game just crawls on its belly and freezes everything. We'll definitely look into getting Tunngle and see where that gets us. Again, thank you for your time. :D

For LAN you do not need Tunngle/ham or whatever you guys use for your internet games. I have no extra programs. LAN is just connecting the two computers with a LAN cable super easy. Almost all my playing hours have been LAN I have had no out of sync errors or problems connecting. Try a differnt map we have been playing 50 years of castro Novasium with 12 dynasties total 3 being human players (using 1 year per round). All of our computers are running 8.1 and we are not using any extra programs to make the LAN game run. I hope you find a solution! its alot of fun now that the out of sync errors have been cleared up with 4.2. It may help to list your system specs. I am running quad i5s and a 2 gigabyte radeon graphics card and 8 gigs of RAM. I can only run this game on normal so if your below my specs you may have issues...or my computer just doesnt like this game or something. I can run skyrim and other more detailed games on ultra so I ve always been a little confused as to why I can only run guild 2 on normal.

LAN has been the issue before, as have the system specs, but those aren't the problem this time. This time, the problem seems to be that the multiplayer doesn't want to start at all. I click the button after setting up the game and the entire game freezes and refuses to do anything. The computer requires a forced restart to do anything after clicking the button! Singleplayer works perfectly well on both our computers, but it just doesn't want to set up multiplayer games. We tried Tunngle as suggested, but it still doesn't want to work. It is a ton of fun once we get past all the bugs and everything else, and I can commisserate with the graphics problems and definitely say that my computer doesn't like the game. Thanks, though, and we'll still look for an answer and hope for the best. :D
