Guild II is still very playable though, and personally, bugs aren't stopping me from enjoying the game. :)
JoWood went out of buisness and Nordic took over distribution by buying the rights to the game. It's not like JoWood was going to say no...they were going out of business and a good many of their games went to Nordic for distribution. Nordic is only a distributor, Rune Forge Game Studios is the developer.
There was only so much they could patch with the game however, and I know this. Most of the fixes came about making it playable on modern machines. Sometimes older games don't like to play on the newer faster PCs.
They've been dveloping The Guild 3 for a couple years now.
Better engine graphics and such.
JoWood had a nasty habit of NOT fixing bugs with their games or only giving it a little bit of a try and then would stop.
Lets put it this way.
The only patches you'll find...even on their old site which don't work anymore is patch 1.2...and that was it...1.0 is now non-existant.
Pirates of the North seas had patches 2.1 and 2.2 and those didn't really fix much and if I remember correctly, they were for multiplayer and were international patches. I have no idea what happened to patches 1.1 and 1.2 for PotNs.
Venice was done by a completely different company, Trine if I'm not mistaken.
Runeforge Game Studios did Rennaisance and JoWood published it and it was supposed to fix some bugs with the game if you had all the expansions or not.
And there were NO patches until 2014 when Nordic games did them...and it wasn't done selflessly either.
The Guild 3 which was announced in 2014 but was being worked on in 2013 and it's now 2015.
(The tail end of it at that)
All this is public knowledge by the way, you can look it up =)
I know I probably made it sound like a bad plan, but it's actually a good thing.
JoWood had a habit of not fixing any bugs with their games until they were pressured into it.
They pretty much gave up on one of their other games Industry Giant II which was just before The Guild II.
So being able to buy it on Steam and have the game run a bit smoother is pretty awesome actually. And the graphical glitches are gone for the most part. So Rune Forge did a really good job cleaning it up and I'm really gklad that they did.
So I'm really looking forward to The Guild 3 =)
