EMP weapons?

I'm at the level where you're meant to fight Admiral Cox's men and use EMP weapons so you don't kill anyone, but the one gun that does only EMP damage is useless and incredibly hard to aim... this mission feels impossible! I keep failing the mission because I can't defeat the enemies fast enough and they destroy the station... am I missing something or do I just need to get really good at aiming this awful weapon?

You can kill but the best wase to use Flash shark missile and sizzler + the emp weapon
