It's DX7 and not LAA, so any textures mods are basically a no-go. They'd all need to be held in system RAM, which the game is limited to using 2gb of. Side note, the textures are also in JPEG format, so you'll never get great quality in the game as it exists.
The closest is trying out the "new" client, which does add shadows and some additional eye candy - however it also can be very unstable and run many times worse in some areas. It's not fun to run a 25-year-old game at like 20 FPS on top-tier modern hardware.
Your best bet - although it can risk a ban in theory - is something like ReShade to add some post-effects. iirc you would also need to use something like dgVoodoo2 as a wrapper to get that working, but it's been a while since I messed with it. Caloss2 should have an older YT video about that somewhere.

The interface shown in this guide is outdated but all those options will still be there with the newest versions we currently have.
There are a number of community created tools and procedures which can be found on the funcom forums. Start by searching for caloss videos on youtube for dgvoodo2 settings, then get the AO Inventory+ 2019 edition. In the menus, under ao installations check "enable high resolution".
This fixed all the low quality textures and flickering/weirdness from such old dx dlls.
This post will walk you through getting the best visual and performance settings out of AO.
