Funcom - AO Rebirth - Please.
It's hard to believe it's been 25 years since I picked up this game...
That being said, I think you're sitting on an MMO that was way ahead of its time.
2025 is a great year to announce you're going to re-release AO with all new textures, models, frames on a completely new GFX engine.

There's never been anything like it, not even close.
I believe this game would gain a huge following, as well as bring many back who left simply because the graphics weren't immersive anymore. I would be one of them.
In a sea of online games these days, there's still nothing like AO.

I'd happily pay $60 to see this game revamped for the current times (but please, don't "change" anything, just update the eye candies!)

You've got everything you need, just update for a new GFX engine.
Any chance you'd consider this? The market is there!

It actually happened years ago, but it's not what anyone was expecting.
Was also buggy and left that way. :/

no that was the alpha/beta of the new engine and yes it was as buggy as hell, they did not upgrade the textures so it looked even worse then the original

Correct, "New Engine" which you can still fire up today if you wish (never finished, or buggy as hell, whichever way you want to say tomato) It happened, just not to the degree anyone expected or desired. I began playing AO in early beta (account shows June of 2001) and continue to dabble in it to this day.

I'll keep poking Funcom, as I've done for a couple decades now. Would love to see it get revamped with a modern engine. I think they're foolish not to.

Tweet Musk, he'll buy the company and make eet happen. Imagine new AO with raytracing and particle effects..

Honestly, not enough. AO aged badly, I would *NEVER* again waste 20 minutes begging for a healer, give up and hope for the best with my fixer hots, kill 4 hecklers, loot squat, have one team member leave for whatever reason, suddenly the whole team breaks apart and I'm back to square one, and the most exciting activity left is to go farm funnels.

But wait, my memory just suggested me it could be worse: dying at the TOTW because somebody else screwed and brought on me the train of mobs, after I sat for 45 minutes outside waiting for a group and 20 more for the boss to respawn.

ah such memories :)

i still remember the day when hungrywolfz trained aztur to the front door and all the noobs were crying :)

and powering leveling my friends at legos with my lvl 13 twink and having teams of lvl 45 clamers come and try to ks me but failing.

they were good days :)

going to the temple of trains as u said was a rite of passage for people

yeah i died a few times from it when i was a noob too but u learn and when u saw a train coming ya knew u had to move lol

sometimes it was safer to run into and past the train instead of trying to outrun it :)

well as time went on and i learnt the game more i was able to handle when someone training me or if i was training thru i could stop and kill the train before it hit the other player.

I think most regular players learned such techniques. I know there were quite a few times that my clan (HUGE Inc) would come out and clear the area for nubs that wanted in the temple and we'd always end up blitzing it a few times for them. ;)
i know HUGE i was Juppongatana we would sometimes help newbies if we encountered them in a run

They're refusing to fix simple bugs like having to reactivate your fr00b account every month. They're refusing to fix REALLY FREAKIN heavy bugs, like being able to play almost the entirety of Shadowlands with a free account. Just google AOSharp, do some research and thank me later. They don't care about this diamond of a game anymore. They packed it in a dark room in a basement and hope it stops breathing. Which is deeply regretting since AO has brought me the most memorable moments of all games in my life.
