Funcom - AO Rebirth - Please.
It's hard to believe it's been 25 years since I picked up this game...
That being said, I think you're sitting on an MMO that was way ahead of its time.
2025 is a great year to announce you're going to re-release AO with all new textures, models, frames on a completely new GFX engine.

There's never been anything like it, not even close.
I believe this game would gain a huge following, as well as bring many back who left simply because the graphics weren't immersive anymore. I would be one of them.
In a sea of online games these days, there's still nothing like AO.

I'd happily pay $60 to see this game revamped for the current times (but please, don't "change" anything, just update the eye candies!)

You've got everything you need, just update for a new GFX engine.
Any chance you'd consider this? The market is there!

25 years have been stepping on the same rake. And all that needed to be done was AO2 or simply re-release AO, as for example they did with FF14 (only one year was spent). Instead, there were a bunch of projects that almost no one was interested in.
Now here's Dune...
The result will be the same. It’s easier to republish the joint-stock company; after all, the developments are all there.

One of the reasons I haven't bought into Funcom since Secret World / AoC. They tend to bust out a new game every few years, then do the bare minimum to keep it going, live off the proceeds from the new game for a few years, rinse and repeat.

Would love to see one of the great game developers buy out rights to it, remodel it and re-release it (Devs like GGG, GSG, Hello Games, etc. (List is short, but brimming with quality and passion for their development of games).
I also wish they would sell the IP to AO to a company that will remaster the game. I don't care about a sequal, because it will be a game with AO skin, made for the new generation of kids. So I will be happy with a new engine, finished features, and just add more expansions.

The graphics for me weren't even an issue, I liked what AO looked like, it was more about the game play, the world and how in-depth everything was.
Unfortunately it's the exploits, broken economy and multi-box problem which I wish they would have looked at / fixed.
I think about this game a lot, used to rush back home from school to play it, that was like 20 years ago though, truly missed game.

This still stands as the only game I have ever played "out of hundreds" that I thought about and couldn't wait to get home and play. I am glad I never witnessed exploits other than those which where allowed with multi boxing in pvp.
The only MMO I have ever played that had a solid economy was Eve Online, and even thou I hate that games intentional programmed mechanics for grieving the Economy is solid. Anyway, point is AOs economy didn't ruin the game or other games like it. Its crap economy just makes it take a little longer to progress.
To Ops post - Yes, U5 would be awesome, but I would like A02 - same game with a couple new factions- some new dungeons- ship warfare - and maybe the moons of Rubi Ka as other areas to control.. Will never happen, but would be awesome to crash the servers fighting over towers again.

Never really had an issue with the multi-boxers, unless they were hogging up XP farms (like hecklers, for example) in which case it wasn't hard to get a few people and ruin their day. How was the economy broken? Never had an issue with that either.
Just for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles, what was everyone's main character name and clan?

Mine was: Fiximo
Clan - H.U.G.E.

I guess if Dune flops they could use the assets for a AO2. But it's not likely to happen. I agree. Sell the IP and let someone else do it.

My character back then was Vandamar and I still have him. I founded Conquistador Coffee back on the second RK server. They went on to bigger and better things after I stopped playing. The server was since merged with the original server. I don't think the org is active anymore.

Not that I've seen lately, I still use my original account, still have all my original characters.
I remember CC from a few tower war attempts (we successfully defended, as always).

RMT is was ruined the economy in AO and just about every other MMO ever made except Eve Online.

RMT is noticed in EVE Online as well, though not to the same degree because of the overall mechanics. RMT definitely pushed prices up, but that's about as far as it got, again, due to how the economy works. Been playing off and on since 2006 (Phsyonic)

I would hop on the AO remake/AO2 train so fast lol

Love this game just wish it had a proper modern (not abandoned) version. It would definitely have a huge population if done right due to the lack of proper mmorpgs its so barren nowdays. That is unless you play mobile mmorpgs which are just monetization schemes that shut down around a year in
do not worry the new ao engine is coming "soon"

They could literally take what it is now, plop the whole thing onto a new GFX engine and it would garner a large following, new and old. Never been any other SciFi MMO that compares to AO in its prime player days.
