Please Remove Anarchy Online From Steam

Anarchy Online is a very old MMO developed by Funcom, that just had a buggy Steam launch recently. The game is using an MMO subscription model in an unethical manner and it should be removed from Steam, as long as it keeps this model.

The developers have stopped working on the game for a year, in the sense that no new content was added, not even proper bug fixing, just maintenance. On their last quarterly report they have stated that no future development is going to be made for Anarchy Online. Yet they still charge a full monthly subscription?!

The industry standard for an MMO is that you charge a subscription precisely to keep working on the game and come with new content, not just for hosting it. The Steam's page doesn't mention that the development on this game has stopped long ago. Charging a subscription for a game that no one is working on is unethical and Valve should take measures. Otherwise anyone could falsely advertise their multiplayer game as an MMO and charge a subscription.

Ao is a trap for new people. I just got a mail from funcom trying to get me to join but the truth is the game has been dead for years and the player base is almost nil. They ask me to get a 3 to 6 month sub and get some free stupid useless items. If you wanna pay the sub It's cool but a good portion of this game is not solo able unless they dumbed down the mobs over the years.
I remember just killing some bosses in the game you needed 6+ people sometimes 12+. I played from launch for 5 years and loved it but they just didn't seem to care anymore after they launched Conan which is also in maitenance mode now. Seems Secret World is thier baby again. they relaunched the game with a new interface and combat system which I have to say is a huge improvement in my opinion.

I guess all mmorpgs i have played send me new offers on a regular basis, even 10 years after sometimes, it's called advertising, and you can send an email to them to stop it (or simply use your ignore list). Also if you received this email, it's because of the anniversary event (which does not exist since at least 5 years, according to you, nor halloween, nor xmas, and all other events we got almost every weeks, like alien invasion in cities).

The game is not dead, they released a new instance this year, The Reck, so you should verify before saying they didn't care anymore since AoC.

Ao is not dead. It is not spry and heavily populated but it is not as barren as i remember. i just did a 1yr sub out of nostalgia and liking my online buddies. But it does need serious help. Gui overhaul, new content, new events. It is still a good game but it is not a triple a release.

noob ! AO is not free only a trial Version of the FullGame you cant get lv 220, Perks, Research, Items, Skills/Nanos, Instance/Dungeons and many more this Game is P2W you must pay for all this features! And a Cash Shop have AO too....

Anarchy Online is entirely free to play.

If you want to play Shadowlands, Lost Eden, Alien Invasion and LEgacy of Xan, you have to subscribe.

You don't need addons to complete all base game areas and instances. We played for many years without any addons, that's what you got today with free account.

When the game was released way back in the day, what people get free now, we use topay for it allways had, then they gave the option for expansions, ( was still allways paid regardless ) then they had the AO+NW+Sl only for 5$, which later dissapeard due to future content.

then around 2006 if i remember right, free play accounts where put in game with massive video in game advertising, which later ended. (could not be turned off for free players )

And that is pretty much how it has been so, YES AO is free the expansions are not free, and for the expansions ( excluding NW ) you need to sub, or as they like to say these days premmium content.

you play the same game i did back in 2003 for free, when i started I had ( or did as of today ) had to pay for it all, and once free play ( froob ) and you can't undo froob either, but it's not like you can't make another account.

But hey if you log in right now you might be able to see a massive what 200 people total in game...

Don't waste your money, the game is empty and is rotting from the inside out very fast.

If I produce a brand of bottled water and I fill it with sewer water, I won't be able to sell it and tell ppl "hey, you don't like it, don't drink it." No, the bottles would never even go on the market, because there are regulations and norms. Just like Steam should have and, accordingly, should remove AO from Steam, because it is a dead game charging for a subscription.

Don't buy it if you're not interested. In shop, do you ask the director to remove all stuff you estimate expensive?

...here i am..with anarchyonline again...wish i could go back in time lol EQ and AO..many many many hours spent with these games, ah, it just wont be the same without the old friends
