Anarchy Online

Funcom is stupid
The issue with Funcom is that they had this goldmine called Anarchy Online and instead of supporting the game they funneled the ressources into projects like Conan Online and later Secret World Online wich where massive failures. Instead of supporting their golden goose and upgrading the graphics and adding content, they went for new shores and failed spectacularly.

To this day they refuse to make Anarchy Online 2. What they do instead is making open world survival trash with the conan liscense BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS CONAN THE BARBARIAN RIGHT??? Hey Funcom, noone cares about Conan. Noone even remembers Conan at this point. And Zoomers certainly do not know Conan.

So instead of working on this one successfull MMO and improving it and feeding new content to it's dedicated fanbase they abandoned it.

Isn't there another MMO that has been arround for a long time, supporting it with new content, upgrading the graphics and delivering new content every year wich is VERY successfull?.......hmmm what was it called again? Oh yeah World of Warcraft !

Funcom could have been Blizzard at this point but they thought that the Conan IP would bring in the big money, and they still do. Kind of sad but not really because stupidity needs to be punished. Idk who makes descisions at Funcom but i can tell you one thing for sure:
I could do a better job.

No arguments here :steamhappy:

Except ,since you mentioned the mmo which name should never be spoken,an old quote comes to mind, back in the golden days when AO was still viable:

the sad part is you are spot on. there are really no good scifi mmos out there. (scam citizen doesn't count) you have eve online which is a great game to read about but ive always had issues with there real world currency driven economy. AO is truly something special. which has always baffled me that funcom doesnt care more about it.

Man I remember AO from when it originally launched, it was a great game back then, but now days in the time of no attention span and the rise of themepark MMOs, and graphics being the end all be all of whether a game is any good,,,,, well no further explanation need be bothered with.

It was a great game back then, but the last time I installed and tried it, it was boring, empty, and very dated in pretty much everything.
we had wildstar for a bit.. an yeah star citizen.. which contrary to what everyone says is coming along.. the problem is we will have all died of old age by the time its ready.. i came back a few times here, but its just too hard to go back to a game like this.. I mean free one man teamed moble games have better UI an graphics.. I keep dreaming of a day when AO2 comes out.. I tried that pile of *$#(* that is conan.. i suspect the depth of their market push there was ' has boobs '.. an that new one is just a bad reskin of better games with loin cloths =)

I've annually emailed Funcom for almost a decade asking for a sequel. Conan was kinda meh, I played it six months and bailed. TSW was great, but I burnt myself out on beta and by the time launch came around, I needed a break. It wasn't a bad game, by any means. It had a lot of depth in building your "decks" and is still very fun. I don't think it needed to be an MMO, though.

As for sci-fi MMOs, I don't care for SC. Dual Universe is where it's at! It's like EvE/Dust and Space Engineers had a baby, and it'll have something for everyone. Not just a persistent world, but a persistent player-made SOLAR SYSTEM and player driven economy, with plans for other systems in the future. Alpha, so far, has progressed incredibly and you can tell they have a very clear vision for the game.

The sad part to me is that they pretty much pioneered the free-to-play market in 2004 when they decided to create free accounts and put up advertisements in-game. I was one of the people who found AO in 2004 because of the free account system.

But for a long time they pretty much ignored free players and left the afraid by claiming it would only be available until 2007. Then instead of kicking out free players in 2007 when the game was already loosing lots of players they added Miy's armor and made Notum wars free.

But people were asking for actual changes to Rubi-ka like new areas and Experience buffs.

I believe it was 2010 when they introduced daily missions which were a great thing for froobs but by that time I don't think there were many froobs around. 2016 they finally added content to Rubi-Ka that Froobs could access when they added The Reck. I was already done with the game pretty much by then so never experience it.

But all that time that froobs where being left alone or ignored.... paid players got tons of content, especially with Lost Eden and then came Xan.

They are stupid and i wish they would just sell the game. I could do a better job with it than they are. All their other games are just fails.

Funcom have made some strange decisions over the years, which is a shame because they have the ability to do so much better.

i think most of the ppl who had the AO vision is gone long time ago from FC... is there even anyone still working there who was developing AO? not sure how their staff changed over the years.
