FIX: How To Show Your Game Status As Playing Anarchy Online

This is a fix for playing Anarchy Online from your Steam Library AND have your game status display that you are playing Anarchy Online

Note: This will bypass the launcher/patcher. For future patches and updates by Funcom, you will need to run either anarchy.exe or anarchypatcher.exe from your ~/steamapps/common/anarchyonline directory OR remove the following fix

1) Right Click Anarchy Online in your Library
2) Click Properties
3) Select "Set Launch Properties" under the General Tab
4) Input (without quotes) "IA700453413 IP7505 DU"
5) Launch Anarchy Online and have fun.

This is true, and thank you for pointing this out. For those who are doing dual logging, you can do the above, or if you really want to launch a second instance of AO from your steam account, create a shortcut and add that shortcut as a non-steam game in your library. In either instance, you will need to create a shortcut

This is the easy way of making a shortcut for steam games:

Righ click the game name in steam game library --> A menu appears, select "create shortcut".

While this does work i am having severe issues with the Steam AO client. When i alt tab and try to launch Chrome for example, it will load Chrome very slowly and cause it to crash. When using the non Steam client this never happens. This is with the old engine.

I am curious what other issues this is causing that are less noticable. It's great having Steam track hours played and all that but i swear its causing weird slowdowns. I do understand basically no one works on this game anymore but it seems serious enough to have someone work on the Steam client so we don't need to use workarounds that cause additional problems. Not to mention you can't even use the steam overlay in-game with the old client.

I'm using firefox and i dont have trouble, i dont alt tab i just press the windows key when im ingame and a few secs later it goes to the desktop.

@Cylon Try running the client in Full Screen Windowed mode. This will let you alt tab much faster.

The issue isn't the speed of the alt tab. It's the point that the client is crashing other programs. The non steam client does not do this.

For anyone who wants to play the RK 2019 server this way, use: IA700453413 IP7506 DU
You will still need to run the launcher separately periodically to handle the Patches though. I recommend manually creating a shortcut to AnarchyOnline.exe in your Steam AO folder.
Also note if you make a desktop shortcut via Steam it will automatically launch with the startup parameters you set, so you won't get the launcher/patcher that way..
