New Engine

Maybe I'm wrong but I was under the impression that the new engine had already been released. Is there a way to try it out?

You need to get it from their site instead. Don't question why they will say beta but still is it beta for life? idk anymore hehe.

I gave the new engine a shot. It definitely looks nicer, but theres random inexplicable crashes that aren't present in the old client.

Maybe just me, but id stick with the old one.

That is not just you. That is the new engine for everyone ;)
Caloss2 has a video how to optimize it a little and it helps ( if you got a nvidia gpu at least) but some crashes still remain even after that.

Yeah it's not just you. I stuck with the standard engine. Higher fps and I like the color/lighting a bit better in certain ways. Eventually if (that's a big if) they get around to optimizing it I'll be switching over to the new engine for sure.

Played for a couple hours last night on the new engine and experienced no crashes. I'm looking forward to visiting all my old stomping grounds and seeing what they look like with the new engine :)

Got not a lot of issues with new engine since monthes, the only bug i am aware of is you get sometimes stuck exiting a whompa, but i haven't seen it for a while.

Caloss! Can't believe you are still around mate :) Awesome vid. BTW, *any* chance I can do the same trick with AMD? (ie- set it to use TSW presets?) What would be a comparable tool to set the profiles with AMD/ATI? Anyone? (got me an rx480) and new engine immediately crashed me goign to ICC from bor as soon as I logged in, but hasn't happened yet again however would love to take your idea and make it work with ATI too for good measure.

I don't have an AMD card to experiment with, but I would certainly advise trying, if it all goes very wrong, you can always reset it. This looks the most promising tool for the job for team red http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/amd-registry-editor-download.html

I just wanted to say I followed CALOSS2's video for the new client and tried multiple Whampas (like 30) without a single crash. As well the quality of lighing, textures and shadows were significantly improved. Great job with the experimentation and youtube CALOSS2.
