Tip for newly created characters with no money
When you first zone into Arete after character creation:

Equip your weapon.

1. Kill enough to get to level 5 right there on the platform by killing malfunctioning robots.
2. You will see a blue zone indicator on the ground, step on it. This zones you into the cargo hold of a ship.
3. Walk to the back of the cargo hold, talk to the guy standing there. (Note he wont talk to you until you're level 5)
4. He asks you to deliver a package. Accept the quest. You will get a package in your inventory. Hang on to this.
5. Complete your stay in Arete. I highly recommend it, you get some decent starter stuff and it helps you learn the game a bit.
6. After you finish Arete and zone into ICC, go to the Holo Deck and deliver the package to the blue Robot (talk to him, he'll ask you for the package from step 4). You'll get some credits, enough XP for a whole level, an ICC commendation, and a sided token (if you are clan or omni).

7. If the Arbiter is present (at the back of the room), Go talk to his floating attendant and you will be offered 1 or two quests. Take them. One should be a Subway quest to kill a boss named Eumenides. (He's at the bottom of Subway, I'll let you find him. Make sure you're about level 20 - 22, and well equipped, before trying to take him solo. Or take him earlier with a team). Once you kill Eumenides you should get quest completion. The other quest is to complete 3 daily missions given by the Agency (but thats another topic).

I would love it but will never ever happen. They rather have Ping Perfect or whatever run 1 conan exiles server that I bet uses 10 times the resources instead :P

The best way to earn credits as a newbie is to roll missions in my opinion. A lot of low ql items can be sold for a nice price because people will need them later to twink or buff their toons.

A few examples : Concrete cushion ql 10, Ql 22 OT-Windchaser M06 Quartz, Pillow with Important Stripes QL 51, Tsakachumi PTO-HV.2 Counter-Sniper Rifle QL 40......

All these items are used because they buff you to equip some items when you don't meet requirements, so they need to be the lowest possible QL where the buff appear (concrete cushion ql<10 are +2sta/str, ql10+ are +8 sta/str). You can easily sell them 100k at least, but a lot of veterans will even give you a lot more to farm these items for you.

There are a lot of them, you can find them by yourself or get a list, I will give you mine if you PM me.

From an old neutral soldier, here's my top 3 tips for AO.

  • Get social. This game is designed around the fact that there is other players around you. Ask questions in the OOC channels. Ask for buffs. Ask for directions. Don't ask for cash, it's annoying. If you meet someone in a dungeon, try to offer teaming, you'll get more xp.

  • The 'Suggested IP distribution' button is often right, but I recommend you asking around which weapon skills and nano skills you better invest in. Otherwise, don't worry. You will fix mistakes while leveling up.

  • Shift + click is your friend. It will give you info on most things you see. Look at your loot: does this random item increase an attribute you use to equip your gear? Drop it in a backpack for later. You'll have a large collection of backpack. Trust me.

+1 Boltie, very good advices.

Agree on backpack collection, I even filled my bank with backpacks on my engineer lol, I even had to delete an item recently, because i was full inventory and full bank lol (all with bags except one item^^)

If you're omni goto the junkyard outside rome, killing bots will yield low lvl implants, they will sell for some nice starter cred.

My advice is to get a map that shows you rare spawns and cycle them to get the rare nanos.
Collect them and if you have some good ones stand in ICC and advertise in trade chat. Made 500mil this way.....well i sold them in the ah but froobs can't do that.

Yeah its how i used to make my cred, going to sl with my crat and finding weird nanos

On this note Borealis an other town is also good place to sell stuff as people some hate the new ICC.

With really rare stuff there is also Neutnet and Darknet and some other which are mass spam bots.

Another tip related to Arete:

When you were killing the malfunctioning robots you may have gotten some drops with blue lettering in the titles. I hope you kept them...

They are part of a quest for Omni and Clan characters that rewards a decent low level shoulder item. The quest is pretty quick and easy if you have all the parts. If not it can be rather tedious.

If you did not save those parts from Arete you can still get them by hunting robots. If you're clan Wartorn Valley is a decent place to start. Not sure on the Omni side since I dont play Omni much.

Here is a good write up with locations to hunt:

I actually got some of those doing reg missions from terminals, they must have upped the drop rate.
I remember back when i first started playing spending a week on the junkyard outside Rome looking for those damn parts.
