Did you email customer support? If it's a temp ban then they will tell you what you need to do.
Was the ban shortly after a payment? It might be a ID check ban. Sounds silly but it's a thing with them to make sure the proper owner of the CC is using it.
She payed for a month and only got a week and a half.

I guess you didn't read the EULA, where it is written they can close your account without any reason, like about every video games?
It's theft if they take your money without agreement, they didn't.
It's a scam if you didn't received what is on the contract, again it's not the case, it's written in the contract.
About phishing, it would be totally stupid to try to steal some CC informations when you gave them by yourself a few days earlier
So it's totally legit from their side, you're free to agree or not BEFORE paying.
About your issue, i think it's an ID check, you're free to not reply, they're free to keep your account frozen. If it's not an ID check, then something happened, perhaps it's not your mum, perhaps the account has been hacked, in which case you should be happy they freeze it so hacker can't use it too.
Whats intresting is, if it isn't CC, loging related, ( frozen and banned are two different status for the account with funcom ), then it must have been somthing pretty bad for them to even bother doing anything, you can do so many shadey things in game atm and no one ever does anything Funcom side.
Hard to see it being the CC tbh, that's all instant now. and if they didn't respond that would point me to the email account attached tot he AO account, they are pretty prompt ( 24/48 hours for FC is prompt) as there job preformance is also stat based witht hose surveys playing a part in there job perfromance.
Never had any issues with support not replying, ive even sent some pretty bad emails somtimes which i figured would get me banned.. but nadda.
Has your mom tried to make a Free account witht he same email ?
I do recall an incident where a player was disciplined for an offensive name and the GMs didn't seem to care that the name was chosen innocently. But if I remember right, even this person was only forced to change his name.
I did have some credit card issues, where my bank's fraud department balked at what they felt was a suspicious foreign charge, but I was dealing with Funcom directly. I can't imagine this happening with Steam unless OP's mother hung up on her fraud department by mistake, and this would have resulted in her entire Steam account being frozen.
Never has any of the people i know have ever "just been banned for no reason at all"
the only people who do get banned in this game are the serial exploit users and the people who buy ingame currency from a 3rd party website and are caught by funcom due to the game logs.
I think your friend is not telling you the whole truth on this matter....
