I can't start a game or anything, controls don't work

The game loads to the main menu and the normal options are there along the bottom. I don't remember all of them, but the ones I tried were New Game and Options. I left clicked each, the color of the words changed, but nothing else happens. I double clicked them and still nothing. I left clicked and hit Enter, then Spacebar, and then anything else I could think of that would select the option. Nothing. The keyboard arrows won't navigate between the selections either.
Why aren't my mouse and keyboard inputs working?
