Concerning the doors, here's what Ludipe replied in another topic:
"Those two doors lead to small puzzles which were designed by devs from other games(kind of a cameo). They aren't finished yet, we thought they would be ready for release, but we'll have to wait and update the game the game once they send me all the data."
The greeting symbol is in the intro room. You cannot get back into that room to see the symbol once you beat the three puzzles, so you should take note of it before then. You'll know the greeting symbol if you use it, because you and another person will wave at each other. The machine has nothing for that symbol. Machines cannot wave in greeting it seems.
There are the four emoticon symbols. If you ask the machine about them, it makes faces which look like the shapes (happy, surprised / open mouth, angry, sad). People will respond with emoticons but never respond to them. The emoticon symbols can be seen on two buildings and one turbine. All three together establish a pattern of left-to-right across a line then up-to-down over lines (or its exact opposite), though I don't see any sequence of symbols used anywhere else.
There's the question symbol. It looks like a question mark. The machine gives a nice looking question mark in response to it, and if people don't know how to respond they will give you the question mark symbol (like: huh?).
There's the education symbol. The machine shows an image of a student at a desk. Two people respond with unintelligible symbols, and one seems quite happy about it. The symbol is on the portrait in the school entryway and right next to the machine.
There is the "identity" symbol. That's a math term: identity means you get back what you put out there. The identity symbol is shown on a few walls and on pedestals in the education hallway. When you say the identity symbol, people always respond with the identity symbol. If you ask the machine about the identity symbol, it shows your character (even more reason I call it the identity symbol).
There are three symbols which people respond with, but no one will respond to and the machine says nothing about them. I sort of wonder if they are meant to be names. I will call them big square, x hat, and open envelope.
The symbol written 5 times in the bar might be a typo since it doesn't work on the machine or the 3 people. In the bar, the symbol is shown three times above the door, once on the wall, and in a picture of the turbines.
Possible spoilers:
If you remove the middle horizontal line from the bar symbol, all three people have a response and the machine does as well. I left that horizontal line off by accident one time and quickly realized it became a valid symbol. The machine shows a speech balloon. I'm not sure what that has to do with a bar, maybe it is meant as a totally different symbol.
There's a slightly hidden symbol if you walk all the way to the right outside. The machine shows a pair of tools which I would summarize as the mining symbol.
It may be the combination of the emotion symbols, the square is happy and sad, the x with a hat is sad and open mouth
I had not thought of that. At first I didn't see it, but I think you're right. Big square is happy and sad emoticons, which I wouldn't have thought of. x hat is angry and unhappy emoticons, open envelope is open mouth and happy emoticons.
Too bad the machine doesn't try translating these mixed emotions :D
The far right symbol is probably a "work" symbol. If so, the fact that the sheriff gives the hat cross means it's a protection symbol, as that's his job. The saloon girl responds with a big square which would mean it's a saloon/hotel symbol and the posh lady simply responds to the work symbol with a sad face ;)
The "identity" symbol is the one I find the most interesting. It consists of every drawable line on the text/symbol-box, and, more interestingly, is the symbol you get if you were to draw all four emoticons on the text/symbol-box. This kind of follows with the recurring theme that the NPCs use when they combine emotions (to make the "big square," etc.).
Just something I found interesting. ;)
I'm quoting bits of your posts (with credit) in my attempt at translating the game in this guide:

Thanks to both of you for posting your ideas, they really helped me try and figure things out, and please let me know if you'd rather not be referenced.
I agree that upside down open box is sad and right side up open box is happy, but I have a feeling that X is angry, and maybe generally implied no or negation. But the sideways box with the X seems like surprise, as that's the facial expression the machine makes. I just am not quite convinced that it means general affirmation, but I think there is more of this game to come.
I wonder if that hidden sideways B symbol that you find after walking all the way to the right represents a mining town or district of some sort. It is significant that the old lady responds with sad and the cowboy responds with X-hat, which I strongly suspect means "sad and angry", like there was a tragedy there perhaps...
I totally missed the greeting symbol and I'm having a hard time finding it. Anyone want to give me a hint?
