Spellforce 2 worth playing or has it too many issues?

After 10 years I wanted to give the sequel another try. I played Spellforce 1 and both expansions with joy before and had only a few bugs a really long time ago with the worst beeing 10hrs of progress lost because of a non-working gate. Other than that it was a 10/10 multiplayer campaign included.


Spellforce 2 never catched me really. It started with broken multiplayer, different versions of the same multiplayer campaign across the base game and addons, each having its own problems/glitches and with a platora of gamebreaking issues I don't remember anymore. I remember I was hyped when the anniversary edition came out but to top it all it had memory leak issues and crashed all the time.

A quick look today revealed that the 5120x1440p Resolution does not work correctly at least in cutscenes (characters are cut off). But even on map when completely zoomed out I can only see like 1 tree and thats it. Is it really that far zoomed in?

Is this all fixed (or can be fixed?) or what kind of journey awaits me here?
I'd rather skip this series than having a bugfest with hex editing chars or whatever to progress.


So anyone out there who played the game and can tell me what kind of fixes I need?
My main goal is to play the sp campaign but if there is a possibility to play the mp campaign bug-free I'd like to hear that, too.

Just completed SP without having encountered any error. Didn't need to jump through hoops (all those talking prevented me from considering this game for quite a while), just started the game as it was. The game doesn't let you zoom out much, but besides that, no problems playing in 1920x1080

Is there really no other way than to downgrade to the original version? I can't use 1920x1080p since I am on 5kx1440p. a 2kx1440p resolution is the bare minimum for me.

It has stopped launching correctly. I owned the original box version of this game and really enjoyed it so I bought the digital copy-- unplayable. I'm sorry now that I bought SF3 as well and may just add THQ Nordic to my list of blacklist for new games.
