crap..
what is with so many games needing me to install a third party app on my computer? why do i need gamespy..i bought this game on steam...obviously its paid for. all of these passwords, etc just to play a game i paid for is crap. steam better start warning people you need to download this stuff or i am going to stop using their service.

especially when until the account is set up, i can't even play the game i have bought and paid for...

what a waste of time and energy...simply because game companies want to pimp additional software that is not needed or wanted...

Gamespy, really? I installed and played the game without ever needing to install software like Gamespy. Don't even remember having to bother with it during the setup. It might just be an optional feature, check again if you really have to install it.

Come to think of it, I don't remember any game at all that absolutely required a Gamespy client installed.

Don't install gamespy, and not because it's bad or anything like that, but just because it's only needed for multiplayer and the MP part of this game is no longer working, so it's not needed.

Instead of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, you could have hit Cancel on the Gamespy installer to skip that step and go on to install the actual game.

I refused the Gamespy installer. The game seems to work fine without it.

As already mentioned before, Gamespy was only needed for the online-multiplayer of this game and you DON'T NEED to install it. Sadly, you cannot play this game in online-multiplayer over steam, but I think steam only sells the game as a singleplayer anyways.
Also, think about how OLD this game is and that is WASN'T designed to be played on steam. That should explain to you, why you might HAVE NEEDED Gamespy in the first place for ONLINE-multiplayer.
LAN-games still seem to work, at least when you use something like Hamachi or Tungle.

Just ignore it, you don't need GameSpy in order to play.

Like everyone said, the online multiplayer was never working with Steam, so well.

If you unwittingly installed it and want to uninstall it, you may encounter the error "Cannot open INSTALL.LOG file" like I did. You will need to drag the uninstaller UNWISE.EXE from the game directory to your desktop then run it from there, and manually selecting the INSTALL.LOG from where you installed this game.

That is quite the 5 year resurrect for an issue, which given the size of todays drives even SSD's is not really much of an issue, even if left installed gamespy takes a tiny amount of space.

Still it is useful advice if someone really hates gamespy :)
