In order to fix the CD Key provblem, which is extremely annoying I might add, you need to play the game as an administrator. In order to do this, you need to right click on the Steam icon on your desktop or from the start menu and click on Properties. Then, click Open File Location. This should open up another window, in which you will right click the Steam application and click on the compatibility tab. Check the "Run This Program As An Administrator" box and close the window. Return to the other window you have open AFTER YOU HAVE CLICKED ON Apply. Open up the folder SteamApps, then common, then SpellForce Platinum Edition. Right Click the SpellForce Platinum Edition application, select properties. Click on the compatibility tab. Check the "Run This Program As An Administrator" box and click apply. Now open up the game. If there is a warning box, just click close (this is just explaining they don't want you to play Steam games while Steam is on admin). Type in your code one last time and hit okay. Close the game and open it again, and VOILA!!! You can now play your game without having to type in the CD Key every time.

I bought the first game many years ago as a real CD and some time ago the full package here. The CD-key on the box was utterly impossible to read, as you never knew what was 0 and what was O and so on... At least here it is easier to read.

wow I always thought that you had to enter the cd-key each time.

Works fine for me. Thx.

Worked like a charm.

And to be clear, You do NOT need to continue to run Steam or Spellforce as administrator. These steps merely allows for the CD-key to be saved, once and for all. After that is done Steam and the game can be run normally without any administrator rights.

I did all that you suggested, but my serial number still wont work for me

The serial number/cd-key not working is a different problem.

First, make sure your Caps Lock is ON. Second, all the dashes " - ", you need to include them. And third, that 0 you put in might actually have been an O (or vice versa). If it's round and wide it's a letter, narrower and oval it's a number.

You do not need to set Steam to "Run This Program As An Administrator".
You only need to open up the folder SteamApps, then common, then SpellForce Platinum Edition. Right Click the SpellForce Platinum Edition application, select properties. Click on the compatibility tab. Check the "Run This Program As An Administrator" box and click apply.
Then after you writed the CD-Key in game you can Check off the "Run This Program As An Administrator" box. The CD-Key is saved.
