The best build for Shadow of the Phoenix campaign?

What would be the best build or builds for Shadow of the Phoenix campaign? I haven't playing that campaign in a long time but I remember never finishing it; I tried beating it a handful of times, mainly playing as a heavy or light warrior (preset build) because I didn't like playing as a mage at the time and each time I would get stuck and stop playing somewhere halfway through. Maybe I didn't manage to finish it because I was still a dumb kid at the time but I've heard some people that SoP has a weird difficulty ballance and it's hard to get through it.
Is it really that bad? And what are your reccomended builds to get through it relatively easily?
Also, are the preset builds that the game gives you any good?

White Mage (Life, Nature, Boons) gotta be my fav build in SotP

i always played heeavy armor + heavy blades
Now, after decades , i play archer + hvy armor in breath of winter

This game is my most fav game of my 40+ yrs pv gaming HAHA i play since release

Is ranged combat + heavy armor any good? I thoight about it but attribute allocation seemed too awkward.

Ranged is terrible , whatever else you choose. it's particularly terrible in SotP bbecause it deals physical damage, to which the mummies are immune. I'd 2nd the statement to use a fully charged white mage, with that, SotP becomes a piece of cake.

Ice/fire+ Necro is quite fun, let frozen enemies murder by undead. And in the end you get all 3 on lv 20.
