Keep in mind all the below builds are much weaker till around lvl 20 then the generic no brainer heavy warrior+boons(paladin) build.All builds below also need much more micro management than the decent paladin.All builds have very high int stat so you take much more damage from offensive mind magic spells.Much more powerful than paladin SOTP early mid game.
Black magic needs very high int(mana regen amount) and medium wisdom(max mana capacity) investment,while elemental magic requires high int high wisdom,so they combine well together.
Imo the weakest black subtree is curse which are mostly debuffs,which unlike white magic boons(buff skills,anti undead)does NOT scale with charisma/any stat.The curse tree is still decent.
Best curse skill is IMO the one which VERY significantly reduces black magic resistance,can be found from curse lvl 8,also has AOE version from curse lvl13+.It helps a LOT with usually relative low level black magic user rune casters such as totems.eg your 40 lvl 12 orc totems+(tank melee orcs) ecounter four lvl 25 demons who have aura of lifetap in RIFT map(real case scenario) they will resist like 90ish% of the casted pain spells,you cast lvl 10 dark banish(curse) on him for -70% black resist,totems will melt one demon in a few volleys versus many double digit volleys(totems get wiped out without killing any without debuff resist in practise )
It might be worth to get curse to 10 just for this skill.-70% is strong enough to change boss/sub boss battles with always relative low lvl rune black caster armies.Also helps black magic rune heroes and the avatar....
Death tree:
has the BEST SINGLE target burst(instant dmg)spells in the entire game,suicide death and death can kill many normal mobs in 1 or 2 casts.Pain spell is almost free(always 15 mana) at high int lvls.
Death has WEAK AOE dmg spells,and also has decent debuffs like curse tree.At very high lvls (SOTP only)synergies well with earth tree,you can cast AOE fleet of clay spell lvl 13+(enemies can't move)and single target pestilence,on many enemies they are 100% dead in a few minutes from the EVER increasing FOREVER DOT.
Both spell results are lvl capped.Pestilence/feet of clay lvl 20 can affect max around lvl 45 units.So usually sub bosses,bosses are not affected.Feet of clay last for 100 seconds........helps kitting
The above combo alone can kill many"normal" units with kiting.High lvl fire and ice also have decent AOE dot skills,I recommend ice due to freeze effects.You can freeze dot then death/suicide death/"chain pain" them to ........ death:)So death combos well with all elemental magic.Elemental magic has weak burst damage.So black and elemental complement each other and needs the same stats.You can max a total of 5 things to spell lv 20 at lvl 50.Eg.Black magic lvl 20,death and necromancy or curse lvl 20 ,then elemental 20 and ice or fire or earth 20.
Elemental and blackmagic can easily afford to increase stamina for better HP and you can use more suicide deaths as a bonus.
Necromancy:
It has lifestealing skills,very good with heavy warrior build as "dark knight",but it is not that good post lvl30(SOTP).Good if you don't want to import.
Now death grasp skill can be found from spell lvl 3 on ,lvl 3 "only" gives 82% chance to surive a fatal wound for 100+ seconds including instant death spells from the black towers.Lvl 3 only a very low invesments can allow ANY build to death grasp rune heroes,warriors and kill death towers and the like who you are supposed to avoid/circuvement in TOOD.Can make many TOOD,SOTP maps easier.
Max lvl 20 death grasp is 99%!!!! 176 seconds you/buffed creature(s) survive a fatal hit can be casted on summoned units......They can literally survive like 20"fatal" blows with ok chance at zero health.........
Necromany "raise dead" can summon weak cannon fodder zero mana upkeep cost skeletons to soak up dmg,enemy waste mana on them.A control group can contain max 100 units.......
Also has the BEST late game summon spells in the game much better than other mage tree summons .Most summon skills have mana upkeep cost.Specters and blades,skeleton,undead goblins are all awesome have low cooldown time.
If you don't want to go for elemental you can go for boons white magic to help buff your summons and army and be better againts the many undead type enemies.Need some charisma for white magic,so HP,non critical stats will be lower.
"Commited Summoner" type necromancer can also benefit from the very high charisma stat invesment,mind magic, defensive 12 meditation and manasteal like spells.Meditation FULLY recovers mana pool with cast time of 2,5 seconds and only 20 second cooldown.lvl 13 defensive can also allow chain mana steal.
Bad new stats are only int,wisdom,charisma for stats.You are weak as f,deal almost zero damage,early-mid lvls are pain.Once you get set up,you can easily maintain dozens of summoned units+death grasp them to have your own army.Sad news is you need to consantly recast meditation,micro tedious stuff.If you run out of mana,many summons will die...
Can solo many maps late game SOTP.Would not recommend for first playtrough.Need to know maps well before hand....Never played it myself,Theory crafted.Any dmg fails meditation cast if avatar gets long lasting posion/fire dots....summons will die.
Good for almost all builds.
Dexterity and Agility to 26(2 total stat point invesment)+light combat to 2 gives you berserk and blessing."Blessing" heals 60% of your max HP,at only 25 mana with 2 minute cooldown...Can alow more 10 mana sucide deaths to kill foes,or emergency self heal.For most non healer builds it is good to have "blessing".Also good for "dark warrior"or any high stamina build.Melee builds also benefit from berserk.
"Paradox mage:"Black magic death maxed and white magic life at decent(non maxed)lvl ,lower HP due to charisma spent,but you can heal,so you can spam suicide death to kill single foes fast.Can also heal aoe heal,buff allies.Boring, it works have leeway to boons/necro/curse.
"Nature" is not recommended,"thorns" is no longer benefiting from str,aura of str,made paladin builds weaker.Necromancy have better summons,lower CD than nature.
Charisma increases the effect of most white magic buffs,heal amounts,slightly lowers shop prices.Also makes most mind magic succes rate better.
and then peacefully cast pestilence on the lot, before you move on, and in case of high level bosses, cast petrify and then alternate between suicide death and death, and later on use a few blades.
this build require modded maps so you can always use the latest and greatest spells,
and also require heavy leveling. ultimately your aim should be earth death necro all 20,
max int, and 100 stamina
another build is mm defensive 12, necro as high as possible, and then as points becomes available support with wave of ice up to lv 17, or alternatively buff the blades with aura of eternity up to lv 17 as points becomes available
