Don't know about widescreen and win 10, but saving settings and storing key is easily solved.
I have only the base game CD, will try and check if theres something for that too.
Thanks for the help :)
First weird thing is the readme says its version 1.52
When checking offical forums it says its best to have Patch 1.11 for that version of the game (without Addons)
Trying to start the game with CD as admin - no dice, also no error
I cant find a No-CD for version 1.52 only for 1.52a
So i installed Patch 1.11 than No-CD for 1.11
Critical error when starting as admin and WIN XP compatibility or without that
error says:
[INFO][UTL]: Error reading the config file config.lua. Default values used.
[TERMINATION] Assertment failed
occurred at C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\compile\Eigene Dateien\project\release\candidate\code\Gd\GdResource.cpp:3108
Message: CGdResource::LoadBuildings: BuildingID > kGdMaxBuildingTypes (173)
So next step might be to try get help from official forums if that old CD can be used as install at all - i doubt anyone really knows tbh OR just buy the platinum edition right away mmm
Really.
I can not throw away my old PC because Platinum Edition is not running on the actual one (at least not on Win 8.1 , did not try to run it under Win10). Had similar problems, no way to save data, etc.
Is this Steam-Version actually running under Win 10? Is there some "handling" needed (like donwloading patches from the official homepage)?
Thanks in advance
This:

works, but windowed kinda sux, i might try the widescreen fix from my 1st post
*edit
Ok so the widescreen executable doesnt work for me at all, damn
The steam version is even easier, just install and have fun.
If it won't work, it's something with drivers or such.
Just make sure that the spellforce.exe from WideScreenGamingForum is run as admin.
In config.lua remove this line:
ScreenResolution = x,
and also remove the other lines u might have put in to make it run in windowed mode:
ScreenHeight = 1050,
ScreenWidth = 1680,
Also dont forget to remove the -window from the steam startparameters if u used it before
Would have been nice if fullscreen would work with widescreen resolutions right away, but hey with all the alpha and beta crap nowadays we r used to that dont we.
Offering this as normal price for 9.99 is a f.cking joke
Any ideas how i can force my mouse cursor into the screen without leaving the screen to the left on my 2nd screen? Because of that i cant use borderscroll which is really annoying
just ducky. pure genius. that's certainly constructive feedback.
i go to access the options menu, and the game always crashes when i try. and recently it's decided it's time to stop saving the game without crashing, too.
since this is "apparently a driver issue," i wonder which drivers i should use? because obviously the drivers that came with my new PC are not the right ones. and obviously the updated drivers for my new PC are not the right ones. so what are the "correct" drivers?
one game i read needs DX9 installed. ugh.
edit: uninstalled it and reinstalled it on a different drive. still won't access the options menu without crashing.
And yes, SF1 is optimated for DX9, so installing this may help indeed.
Tell you what though, if we're not helping.. Log steam support.
EDIT
Could also some other runtimes be missing, like c++ or .net framework or so.
There's a package (though in German) adding all of them in one go; you might consider installing them:
http://www.chip.de/downloads/All-in-One-Runtimes_37449838.html
(It even contains dx libraries, so you might skip installing DX9 on your own then)
