Painkiller: Black Edition

Painkiller: Black Edition

Can't get game to start
I've played and beaten this game before, a little over a year ago, but now when I go back to play it, it immediately crashes. I click "play" and a black screen pops up for a few seconds, then I get "Painkiller has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to this problem." I've disabled my second monitor, put it into Windows XP service pack 2 compatability mode, deleted clientregistry.blob, edited the configuration file, deleted and re-downloaded the game, restarted Steam, verified the integrity of the cache, and deleted my save files. I have no idea why this would be happening since I've played it on this same computer before and haven't touched any settings since then, and as far as I know it hasn't been patched since then either.

Any idea what could be causing this? I just want to play my game. I don't want to have to rebuy this on GoG

download the painkiller demo and see if that works, that would narrow down the problem

Good thinking, bro. The demo works fine. Not sure how to identify the difference between my game and the demo that's keeping my game from working though

Go to the game's properties and verify the integrity of the cache. Make sure there aren't any errors in your download.

Like I said, I tried that and it did nothing

i think the thread 'For anyone having problems with the game starting' might have the solution to your problem

i'm having similar issues to Mr. Brojangles except I get a strange window that opens in left-top corner and will not close until I restart computer.
Did you ever get this working 'Bro'?

Same here. A black screen would always appear and can only be closed via Task Manager. Win 7 64-bit edition.

Same here. Is there no solution?
