Having a ASUS Xonar DX. The card and driver emulates EAX in around 80% of the games successfully and without problems.
So, you have "Creative Labs EAX 3 TM" as selected soundprovider in painkiller sound options? Because otherwise you're just getting software audio with EAX 2 on it :p
Oho. Ok, wait no lol.
I have a EAX box checked in the options. I thought thats it. Have no EAX 3 option.
Sound provider is Miles 2D I think. Not even a clue whats the best.
Randomguys guide had something to enable EAX again but I guess it would probably not work on my soundcard anyway.
Install Creative ALchemy, then run it, click on "add", write a name like "Painkiller Black Edition Steam", use the second option and select the default installation directoy (...common/Painkiller Black Edition), select to install in subfolder too and select the "Bin" folder, select to install in main folder and subfolder, click ok. Now select the added game from the left, and move it to the right, done.
Now you will have the eax 3 in the game available.
ps. before that, remove dbsound.dll, dbsound.ini, dbsoundlog.txt from the game main folder and bin folder (if any).
edit. you need to test the maxvoicevalue, default is 128, test if is good when you play, if not modify it to 64, from ALchemy.
