ERROR: could not Initialize DirectX 9 Renderer

I just bought the game and installed it and got the above error message. I've checked and I already have DirectX 10. Is it because of Vista or is it possibly something else?

Try to update them by using dxwebsetup: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx%3Fid%3D35

The game use DX9, there is also an installer in the installation folder but is best if you use the above link to update them.

ps. what is your gpu? notebook with intel?

AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series i just ungraded to windows 10 it used to work fine now nothing just keeps give me a error message my gpu clock is at 300 MHz

Dunno if it will help, but you could try a couple of things:

1. Set compatibility mode for ...\steam\steamapps\common\Painkiller Black Edition\Bin\painkiller.exe to win xp or more recent, and try to run the game.

2. Bit sketchy, but worth a shot: go to ...\Painkiller Black Edition\DirectX\ and extract directx.cab with 7-zip. Copy the extracted d3d9.dll to ...\Painkiller Black Edition\Bin\ and try to run the game.

Ye I think the issue was the compatibility mode...

I know I'm a little late on replying but nothing worked so I'm just gonna refund the game, thanks for trying though everyone.
