Sucky controls
Why are there so freakin' many games that use the WASD keys for movement and the mouse for turning? I have mild CP on my left side, so my left hand isn't coordinated like my right hand. That's why I prefer games like Doom, which have movement and turning on the arrow keys, that way I can move and fire with my right hand.

Also, why doesn't this game support use of a controller. I'm able to play well with the contoller. the analog sticks make everything easier, hence why I use a controller for most of the games I own.

Using the arrow keys for turning is very inaccurate, and you need a fair ammount of accuracy for certain guns, which you can't achieve with the arrow keys.
Controller support is rare to find in old games, and this one is pretty much abandoned in terms of support and updates.

Painkiller Hell & Damnation has controller support as far as I know. So, if you absolutely have to use a controller, I'd recommend getting PKHD + all DLC maps.

The Steam Controller may unofficially support this game, though this is just wishful thinking.

I play this game using the Steam controller. it's pretty good and easy to set up (there's a rake of community made configurations & it's as easy as just selecting one) but using the haptic touchpad for aiming takes a hell of a lot of getting used to.

This game requires twitch aiming because of the pacing of this game. You need enough sensitivity to cover all angles as such using a mouse is a must. You don't have to worry too much about aiming in this game (there's no bonuses for headshots). The only weapons you may have a problem with if you suck at mouse controls are the stakegun and the painkiller. I reccommend sticking with the shotgun, it's ridiculously accurate and aimining wiht it is so simple, especially at close range. With the shotgun you have to time your shots when the enemies are close... either that or aim dead on and you will likely kill with that too. It's such an overpowered weapon and if you need help, use the freezer to stop an enemy in it's place, you can use this to kill enemies at long range, even if you hit it with only part of the burst, it's still a 1 shot kill. Later on you get an automatic weapon which is great for close range combat. I would actually save your shotgun for long ranged combat to be honest simply because if the freezer... that is if you are terrible with the stakegun. Nevertheless there are tonnes of weapons and many of them are easy to use. That's the beauty of Painkiller, it's very accessible for newcommers but has plenty of depth for veterans, the shotgun in this game outmatches any other shotgun in a FPS, it's so good a child could kill with it easily.

Oh and by the way, do not worry about ammunition, Painkiller isn't a conservative FPS like Half Life, it has tonnes of ammo crates littered all over, so just keep shooting till you get a hit, no matter how many times you miss you will hit eventually, the rapid firing of weapons helps a ton.

The controls for this game were specifically designed around the core gameplay. You have to remember, most players bunnyhp and as such they need to be able to maneuver around the levels quickly, this means they need quick camera turns simply to avoid enemy attacks. Painkiller is all about weaving through enemies, avoiding hits and dealing tonnes of damage. The controls were optimized for this. I played Painkiller Hell And Damnation with a controller and it made it damn well clear that this game was made with mouse and keyboard in mind simply because the control stick at max sensitivity just wasn't fast enough for the game's pacing.

Put simply, if you played using the arrow keys to aim and turn, you will suck at the game and get your rear kicked hard.
