sudden crash on startup

apart from the usual problem (steam won't close the game properly so you always have to manually kill a rundll32.exe),i played the game for more than 20 hours with no other issues

that was until yesterday because today it immediately crashes on startup and nothing i've tried so far worked : i have deleted the cfg file,savestates,verified the files and even re-installed the game

any idea on how to proceed from here ? thanks

if only it was that easy..
besides,like i said,the game worked fine for several weeks and i could play for more than 20 hours (24 or 25) using the current cfg and compatibility settings
so clearly those aren't the culprit

they blamed drivers,amd videocards,etc but nah
i am now facing the same problem and i'm using an invidia card and i haven't updated drivers in months

is there a way to force steam to create a log / crashdump or whatever ? i refuse to believe there is nothing that can be done to fix this issue

Try to run the editor, you need the nodcd of it.

edit. After a google search, i've see that the problem can be the "gameux" windows file. Here is the fix:

Run it and try to lunch the game again. To restore the original file run the bat file again ;-)

tried the fix but,unfortunately,the game still crashes to desktop immediately
the rundll32 problem is just a (not so) minor annoyance

Almost same problem but i havent rundll.32 process, tried everything but nothing helped

open regedit

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\GameUX\ServiceLocation

in "Games" change the server address with "127.0.0.1" and all crashes with rundll32.exe will be fixed

this ONLY with windows 7

it's been a while and have forgotten the details but i solved the problem (a couple days after making this thread) by deleting every single cfg file related to the game
in other words,just uninstalling wasn't enough ; go to your local directory and wipe out everything

wait, u want to say that need reinstalling windows huh?

no ? all the cfg files of the game . some don't get deleted even if you uninstall the game from steam iirc

Okay its fixed it itself, prob due audio issue that i didnt reboot my pc after installing driver tho
But in some reason setting of brightness in driver vid are messed up when i laucnh every time this game
