Worst game ever

isnt even worth the $2.50 i paid

- combat mechanics is just bad
- graphics are horrible... this includes the shaders and thier crap striping
- so many bugs... gameplay bugs, graphic bugs, hell once i found i had to get rid of the steam overlay to make my mouse work i loaded up the game and half the textures (including the freaking text for menus and popup boxes) are just gone...
- sloppy game development (how did this series get this far?)
- dev abandoned (sure u can get comunity created patches but i hope u like a 9hr d/l time, my d/l speed from the main site for em is jumping from 50-100 KB/sec)
- real crap lag (i have a real decent pc, way above the requirements for this, yet if i whip out a torch i get a good 2 or 3 seconds of lag. and then the torch just vanishes)
- glad i only spent $2.50 on it but i shoulda just gone downtown and thrown said $2.50 in pennies at bums... woulda been more entertaining.

Btw, I didn't encounter the missing torch bug, but I did encouner the lag from it. Lots of people are saying a patch is required but I jumped right in and started playing it and found no problem with it.

Maybe if someone is playing Gothic 3 first instead of playing the first 2 games, they would be surprised at how awkward it is, but funnily enough Gothic 3 is way less awkward than 1 and 2.

I have played Gothic 3 from when only the developers patches were available. I think I spent over 1000 hours in Gothic 3, in different games of course. This is my favorite game of all time. The story is awesome, the graphics are awesome (for 2006), the controls are awesome (except for battle, but even after a little practice it gets insanely nice). Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Yes, that's it.

Oh, and after all the community patches my faith in humanity was restored. They made the game even better. Holy smoke! :-)

Yeah, I've spent over 500 Hours in Gothic 3 too. I remember pretty much every quest now and just completed the game in 50 hours (not only the game, but almost all side quests too, max reputation and etc.). I just wish there was something more to do in cities after getting 100% reputation :)

Love the Gothic series but after all the work put into it NPCs still fall through the damn map breaking quests and lots of gaming time wasted. Wish it wasn't still broken buttttt it probably will be. Hoping for a solid remake down the road. If you're the persistent type there are a lot of nice easter eggs and extras added by CM 2.6 and QP 4.3 but I just can't invest another 50 hours into a game to find out (insert NPC's name) fell through the map for no reason and spawn or Ctrl-F8'ing them doesn't bring back quest content. Oh well.

I am blaming not the game itself, but a game sold on Steam.
I used the 1.75 beta branch by the way - the mouse isn't still working, and the stripes all over graphics are still there.

I bought the game - nevermind how much did it cost, 1 dollar, 2, or 50.
I have to look for some community patches? Install them? Test them? And MAYBE I'll get a working game?

Then why should I get it from Steam, if I surely can look for already patched working game at some torrent trackers? For free?
Thought - If someone publishes a game at Steam, then it's he who worries about making it work.

I think this is very much a YMMV sort of game. My gaming PC is far from powerful and other than some occasional lag, I get good performance with this game and don't get any graphical artifacts or weirdness like missing torches. It also controls well enough, provided you have the mouse script and no smoothing. I know I dare not have this installed on anything but a SSD, because the game often does heavy loads of resources (PC didn't have much RAM back in the day) and it will lag on a standard HDD.

The game was ambitious for its time and a good 3-4 years ahead of itself upon release, so IMO the graphics are more like a decade out of date at most. I really like the look of it and love the setting and details of Myrtana, Nordmar and Varant - nice sized world you can really get lost in. For sure though, if you hold it up against the RPGs with better graphics released this past decade like Witcher 3 or Skyrim SE, it's not going to compare well.

I really hope Piranha Bytes returns to the series, but admittedly I've also really enjoyed Elex and look forward to sequels for it.

I just tried it and it performs awfully. Don't want to set grass options to minimum like I did 15 years ago to play in 2020. Also mouse doesn't respond.
I wish they made a remake, but this abomination should not be sold.

It makes the game WAY BETTER with better graphics too! But don't forget, this game was released probably before you were born. It's not Call of Duty Black Ops in 4k.

i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ doubt it was released that long ago. there's more then 10 pixels. And game dev's relying on community to fix their broken ♥♥♥♥ show is prime ♥♥♥♥ game standards. Also who the ♥♥♥♥ plays Call of Duty anymore?

Using the right mods i pretty much encounter zero bugs, having a graphical textures worth of 2020 titles and a lot of content. Super solid game and a lot more soul than witcher or cyberpunk.
