Staff melee?
Howdy Folks,

Just bought Gothic 3 and excited to try it out. I'll be installing the community patches but was curious if I could play a monk-like character using a staff (quarterstaff?) for melee with some heals and light spell casting? Thanks!

You can definetly use a staff as well as magic. The mage armor also looks like monk robes.

There's a bunch of staffs that you can acquire throughout the game.

Awesome, thanks guys. Just noticed the staff skills. Does staff damage go up from Strength or the other stat...Ancient Knowledge? Only reason I ask is it's melee but staff skills require Ancient Knowledge...so I'm not really sure.

Strength affects all melee skills including staffs.

I go for a Mage style and Find some slightly Good Staff (+20 MANA etc)
But don't feel like to learn any Staff Fighting Skill.
Because our First Weapon (Orc Slayer) is too Handy to use.

Staff Fighting Skill is worth learning?

staff fighting is worth learning ONLY if you plan on mostly a melee character with a little magic backup. The staff skills are worthless if your going a full mage, since your attacking with magic which is 1000% stronger and better than trying to hit something with your staff. Your pure mage is focused on AK and mana, not strength melee combat. So a pure mage, staff skills are worthless UNLESS you have a powerful staff that requires minimum strength/skill to use and i think only 1 staff in the game actually requires a staff skill.

Going as a melee warrior trying to be a warrior/mage your spreading your stats around too much. A warrior is going to want high strength, endurance and stamina for special moves, not AK and mana for magic. If you try to do both, you'll fail in both. Either go warrior or mage. If your going warrior pick a better weapon, if your going mage, don't worry about boosting your staff damage, your going to be mass AOE blasting foes hurling spells, not swinging your pathetic staff.
