It works for me without runnuing Steam as admin.
I only see black screen and there appears a window saying "Compile shader material cache, this may take several minutes. Press button to start"
I gave up after couple minutes and killed Gothic3Final.exe in task manager.
Is that how it's suposed to work or did I miss something?

This should be stickied, indeed.
So there is a difference between the 1.75 patch in Steam and the 1.75.14 patch that is hosted online - even if the Steam 1.75 patch works for other people (though the comments show that at least some others also experience problems with it), there is a difference.
I hope that the 1.75.14 patch that is available for download online gets added to the Steam installation of Gothic 3, so that manual effort to search, download, and back up that patch won't be necessary to ensure future playability.
