Gothic 3 has bigger world with a lot of quests to do in it. It's like Skyrim in that regard.
Choose whichever you prefer. Or start from the beginning - Gothic 1.
Gothic 1 seems the most harsh when compared to the later games (controls are archaic for example) but has arguably the best atmosphere (but you really need to immerse yourself). And well... it's the first one in the series.
Im looking for a game like Skyrim. So yeah, i think im going to choose the 3rd one. Is true the game is buggy?
What about the world and quest of Gothic 2? Or is the same thing like The Witcher?
But GOthic 1 and Gothic 2 gonna be me always my n1 RPG games :3 the controls can be really anoying but i still love it more then Skyrim :3 for some reason that i can't explain
(Gothic 2 if you should be german or can understand german you should download the Expansion Mod - Varusbiker Edition)
Still, I would start with Gothic 1, then play 2. But if there is only willingness to play one Gothic game, then I recommend Gothic 2.
It's definitely worth a go when patched.
You might also like to check out the risen series. Risen 1 is a good mix of open world with gothic style quests and progression. Risen 3 is also pretty cool so I hear.
My first time play Gothic is on Arcania lol XD
Gothic 3 is not a masterpiece.
Gothic 1 and Gothic 2 were masterpieces. And the Add-On The Night of Raven was as well.
Gothic 3 is compared to the first and second one really bad, even with the patches.
It's not as bad as Arcania, let's face it, but it just doesn't match up with Gothic 1 and 2.
