Black screen problem
I've been trying to find a solution for this for 3 days but failed. Alt-tabbing or trying to quit the game from the menu causes a blackscreen. Once it happened, if I hold alt again and click tab, I can cycle through all opened windows, but whatever I select, I'm still stuck on the blackscreen. If do ctrl+alt+delete I can open the task manager to try to close the process, manager technically opens (I can see it on the alt-tab selection) but still can't use it, stuck on the black screen. With no way to close the process, I can only restart my PC or sign out of my windows profile, which closes everything including Gothic 3 process, so I can sign back in.

The issue is the same with only Community Patch 1.75, AND with the addition of Update Pack, AND with the addition of Parallel Universe Patch. Neither fixes the issue. Tried compatibility mode with Windows XP, no luck.

I'm on Windows 11, 5800X3D, RX 6700XT.

Perhaps if the blackscreen only happened due to alt-tabbing I could ignore it by not doing it, but since it also happens every time I quit the game, it's kind of unacceptable, especially since I can't even close the process as an alternative because that would require alt-tabbing. Alt-F4 also causes a blackscreen btw. I don't know what else might cause it during the game, as I haven't advanced beyond Ardea yet as I'm trying to fix the game first.

Does anyone have any idea how I could fix it? I didn't have these issues when first playing this game 17 years ago.

EDIT: Setting all graphical settings as low as they can go seems to fix the issue, but it's not a compromise I'm willing to make.
Setting some to minimum, but not all allows the game to crash more gracefully (simply "not responding") instead of the dreaded blackscreen.

The workaround for that black screen problem is to go to the game menu first and then ALT-TAB out.

Also playing the game in windowed mode should also prevent this problem:

open ge3.ini file, change Fullscreen=true to

Fullscreen=false

Going to game menu first makes no difference, and playing windowed does not prevent the game from crashing when exiting. It also makes a windows mouse always visible when playing, which requires another program as a workaround for the workaround, and since it does not solve the underlying issue, I'm worried there will be further blackscreens and crashes later on.

A puzzling comment, given that 17 years ago you didn't have Windows 11 but likely Windows XP or at most Windows Vista - and you didn't use the same hardware either, particularly not the same graphics hardware and drivers.

Doesn't help you, sorry for that. I haven't had any such issues with Gothic 3 on Windows 7+10 with a wild mix of graphics hardware from either AMD or Nvidia.

After looking for a solution, I've just accepted the black screen and also getting stuck on the quit screen as quirks of an old game and after many hours play they don't seem to do any lasting damage.
I then just close my PC with CTRL-ALT-DEL.
What I have noticed though, it happens less often if when you want to quit, you say no instead of confirming the first time.
