Enhanced Edition contains Community Patch 1.75 - you can update your game via Steam. Pinned topic in this forum explains how to do it.
I strongly recommend against playing default game - it's so buggy, it's basically unplayable.

yeah I noticed the bugs...thanks, I'll refund this version and buy the EE.

Edit: hey wait a minute...some people are claiming that the EE doesn't include certain areas and quests. Is that true?

You are talking about Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition. Its stanalone addon(taking place after Gothic 3), and its basically crap. :P Dont bother with it, just install Community patch for your game.
Right click your game in library -> properties -> betas -> cpt_1.75.

Default game that was not playable is not accesable through Steam. Steam default install is patch v.1.6 with a lot of bugs fixed and changes already made.
