Using 1.75 patch for Fixing Mouse & Transferring Your 1.6 Save to 1.75
To fix any mouse issues, update to the 1.75 version. If you have saved files from the vanilla version 1.6, check the notes below, before updating.

To Update to version 1.75.

Goto the game library, select gothic3 and right click. Select "properties", goto the BETA tab and set the opt-in bar to version 1.75 cpt. It will download and update the game. This will fix the mouse issue.

To transfer your 1.6 save to 1.75.

First back-up the saves folder C:\Users\<>\Documents\gothic3. Make a copy of the gothic3 folder and place it on the desktop for now.

Open the save folder C:\Users\<>\Documents\gothic3

Delete the old save files except for the last save file with this name G3_World_01_0003.g3savdat (your number at the end will be the # of saves this is my save 3, it's my highest save)
You can copy and paste it from the backups if you deleted all the saves already.
Leave the Shader.Cache and UserOptions.ini.

Run the game, turning off alternate balancing and starting a new game. After cutscene, immediately do a fullsave then quit the game.

Open the C:\Users\<>\Documents\gothic3 again.

You should see two new save files listed - G3_World_01_0001.g3savcpdat and G3_World_01_0001.g3savcp

You want to remove the G3_World_01_0001.g3savcpdat from the folder and place it on your desktop.

Now copy it's name and paste it over the G3_World_01_0003.g3savdat, renaming it to G3_World_01_0001.g3savcpdat.

Start the game again and you should now see the save file listed.
Load it then re-save it over top of itself.

You're finished:D

You should now be running at 1.75, with a fully working mouse and your old save should be working.

Enjoy.:D

Sounds cool, but after renaming the old save files and overwriting the new ones, the game doesn't see any save files.
Carinth Jun 20, 2018 @ 1:31pm
It won't see any saves until you create a new one ingame, then when you exit the game it should have the two new save files in the folder.

Don't do a quicksave file, do a fullsave file.

Start the game and start a new game with alternate balancing off, click past the cutscene, close the hints and do a full save. Then exit the game. Check the save game folder for the two new save files.

Have your old save files on the desktop, use the last number set from the old saves, there should be two files.
Rename them to the names of the two new files in the save folder, make sure you change the file extensions too.
If you don't have file extensions on look here http://www.thewindowsclub.com/show-file-extensions-in-windows

Once renamed overwrite the two in the save game folder with them, if renamed properly they should overwrite.

start the game again.
When you start the game, goto load game and then click the save there, it will have the image from the new save still, but will load in your save, so you just do a full save again and it will update the file and image.

That's for 1.6 to 1.75, I haven't tried 1.74 to 1.75. I'd think if doing 1.74 to 1.75, you would set the alternate balancing to match with the new save, but it has no alternate balacing in 1.6 so I turned it off starting my newgame and after saving and renaming, it is running my old game fine. I'm doing playthrough recordings so I didn't want to have to replay everything to that point. I'm gonna do a vid for it but just didn't have time yet.

Yes, I understood that correctly, did it just like that. Started a new game, did a full save, renamed my old saves (name and extension) and put them in the gothic3 folder. I did that correctly, because otherwise it wouldn't overwrite, just put them beside the new saves. Still, after starting up the game it didn't show up any saves at all.
I'm trying to do this from 1.6 to 1.75.
Carinth Jun 20, 2018 @ 1:47pm
When you were creating the new save, did you do a fullsave? It wouldn't work with a quicksave.

After you make the save open the saved game list and make sure it shows a saved game listed ingame. If nothing is listed in the save games then do a fullsave again and make sure it creates a save 1 and has it listed, then exit the game and make the file alteration. It should work after

When you restart the game, the save you made should be listed when you goto load game, it will still have the picture from the new save, load it and it will actually load the other save in, then resave it over the one there and the pic will change to match the old save.

As I said I did everything just like you wrote. Full save, rename, overwrite. Before overwrite it did show me the new saves, after overwrite it showed me nothing. But don't worry, I'll finish Gothic 3 the "alternate" way, meaning without the interfering Windows update. My second playthrough on the other hand is gonna be with the 1.75 patch from the beginning.

Thanks for your time!

When I get time I'll do a video for it, I have 3 playthrought video's done on 1.6, then using this method was able to transfer my save to the 1.75. I had to update as my mouse stopped working for some reason.

I did make one other change, I updated the games exe files with the 4gb patch.
I used this http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php and applied it to both the Gothic3.exe and the Gothic3Final.exe (but pretty sure I did that after). Maybe it needs the laa patch applied to see the save, because otherwise I'm playing my 1.6 save on 1.75 right now, not sure why it won't work for you.

@Elondrius I decided since i had all my back-ups to run through the process again, but for some odd reason it won't work like it did the first time. The first saves I altered work fine, but my others aren't. Really not sure what the difference was. I took down the instructions for now till I figure it out.

Edit:
I've been at this for hours, trying every possible config and I can't replicate what I did to get my save to work from 1.6 with 1.75. The first one I did works perfect, but every other try after has failed to work. I dunno what to say.

I figured it out.

You only need to rename and replace 1 file.

First back-up the saves folder C:\Users\<>\Documents\gothic3. Make a copy of the gothic3 folder and place it on the desktop for now.

Delete the old save files except for the last save file with this name G3_World_01_0003.g3savdat (your number at the end will be the # of saves this is my save 3, it's my highest save)

You run the game with 1.75, turning off alternate balancing and starting a new game. Immediately do a fullsave then quit the game.

Open the C:\Users\<>\Documents\gothic3

You want remove the G3_World_01_0001.g3savcpdat from the folder and place it on your desktop.

Now copy it's name and paste it over the G3_World_01_0003.g3savdat in the folder.

Start the game again and you should now see the save file listed, start it then re-save it.

Yes, with this method it works fine.

Thanks for your time and effort, I appreciate it greatly!

Have a nice day, Savior of Myrtana!

Edit: This method works with quicksaves, too. You won't be able to see your quicksave in the list, but pressing F9 during game loads it up without a problem.

@Elondrius and sq99

Excellent, glad I could help.
Thanks for letting me know that it's working properly now.
And that info with the quicksave.
Spent many hours trying to figure that out, nice to hear it works:D

Hi guys, I know it's 2019 but I just started playing this great classic game. Thanks Carinth for the info on the patch. It works!

My new problem is I have an NPC missing. He's the Drummer from the Wolf Clan missions. I tried the console cheat. Its menu bar opens but I can't type anything on it. All I get is a blue overlay of the console. Could it be the patch? Or am I missing something?

Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance.

@Misty

I'm not to sure on that issue. Not something I've encountered.
try a google search for - gothic 3 drummer wolf clan missing. See what it says or recommends. This being an old game it should have alot of information regarding game bugs and fixes.
Try a search for Gothic3 wiki too. Wiki helps too for gothic 3. That almost always has the problem and fix listed.

I would search myself but it's really late atm and I need to goto bed before I fall asleep at the desk. Otherwise I normally would look it up and test the suggestions. If the above suggestion doesn't help let me know.

I do apologize for not looking it up atm, but can check more into later if you like. Either way please let me know.

@ Carinth

No apologies required.

I tried google search on it but to no avail. Went to their wiki but didn't help. A few people of current years also found that the console was unable to be keyed in.

All I know is to go to the drummer, someone suggested: goto Orc_Raider_NrdDrummer_01

With the menu dropdown bar, I can search for the drummer info under NPC info, but I just can't goto him.

I can wait for you to check it up cos I have all the time in the world. Thanks for your help! A nil return would be preferable if you can't find any solution too. Thanks!
