Gothic 3

How do I enable the community patch?
And is it 1.75.14?

Right Click Gothic 3 > Propeties> Beta and there should be an option for a patch if it's not enabled already.

Yeah, I've done that but nothing happens, the game files won't update since when I launch the game it says it's still on v1.6

Then maybe delete the game files manually to make sure all are gone, uninstall the game within the Steam app, activate the beta subscription and reinstall the game. It says 1.75.14 on the main screen. I've switched to that version yesterday instead of using the separate CP.

Btw, turning off "Alternative AI" in the difficulty menu is what I recommend.

what is alternative AI??
Ok, I managed to install it via the steam beta branch, but now I'm unable to install mods and a hotfix (Update_Pack_v1.04.10) that enables things like drinking potions on the fly and the armor fix.

still contains the link to the separate CP installer.

I've found that if switching to the beta channel, that disables the Steam app's screenshot tool.

The Community Patch Team added two optional modification packages to the game.

One is "Alternative Balancing (AB)", which can be toggled on the main screen and touches various constants, not limited to the number of learning points some skills cost. With AB turned OFF, the player character sort of becomes a jack of all trades, whereas with AB ON, one must more carefully decide on specialization - whether to become a mage OR a fighter OR a hunter.

The second set of modifcations "Alternative AI" can be toggled in the difficulty settings menu. It adds changed combat behavior of NPCs and beasts to the game and also modifies blocking/parrying. Melee combat in the game becomes more difficult and likely frustrating. With that checkbox turned off, the problem of stun-locking combat in the original game remains, but one can use it as advantage and easily win arena duels as a ranged/magic using character, who doesn't invest many LP into strength and melee combat.

The only fun combat in Gothic 3 is magic usage anyway.
